Actually you're probably right I'd take a Punto over a Corsa.. I don't know if the new ones are a huge improvement though

Early Fabia? Your Getting VW Build quality but a nice small car and a not too extreme price. Very light car so all the VAG Engines perform well.

Aieeeee, just to make this decision even more difficult I accidently found a Mini Cooper in what I think is my favourite Tahiti blue colour in my own little pokey town for sale on eBay! Ive asked the guy when he is available to check it out, it takes about 10mins to walk from one side of town to the other so transport is no issue here!

But keep the ideas coming, they're all noted and checking out what I can find. Thanks for the superb help so far!

Apparently the block and bottom end of the LS1 is the strongest. And since I'll be running a couple of turbos, serious capacity and breathing probably isn't all that necessary.

And what are you going to put it in?

No- I plan to shove it in a BMW E38 7-series (extended wheelbase version). I'd like to be able to listen to a 14 speaker sound system while I accelerate to 100 in less than 10s. If I can get the mapping right I reckon I could still get 20mpg+ on a sensible motorway cruise. 1000bhp shoving a 900kg racecar up the road would just be too crazy and frightening for me. In a 2-ton saloon I could just about use it.

I might just stick with turboing the standard BMW V8- I need to research it though, I've heard the standard crank, head etc. is too weak to cope with more than 700bhp.

An RS4 is in no way faster than a 7 with a turbocharged LS1youre talking 600-700 bhp at least there. And i bet its not a great deal heavier.

My point would not be to have the faster car in the history of the world ever, it'd be to have a luxury car which looks standard but goes like stink.

There's an AC Schnitzer E38 down the road from me Howard. It looks alright, but (as about 50% of all 7s seems to be) it's in Boston Green Metallic. Pretty hard to make a sensible judgement on how good the bodykit looks in such a crap colour. I personally want a dechromed one in something like dark metallic red on the multispoke 18s- although I saw one recently in a different shade of green on some split-rim 19s (or maybe 20s) whoch looked stunning.
