i was also eventually told that the explosions earlier last month were the cause of this; though it’s still not really clear to me, or any of the Shell petrol employees i spoke to, as to why an accident at a Elf / Texaco facility should so drastically affect the supply of fuel branded as Shell Optimax... perhaps that’s the real story…

The facility is (or was) owned/run by Total and Texaco (AFAIK) but there's no reason why they shouldn't store fuel for all the other companies. Perhaps elsewhere in the country Texaco tankers fill up at Shell depots.

I think Butuz's explanation is the most likely.

i was shocked when i saw there were 'shortages and variance of supply in some types of food they served due to the fuel explosion' i didn't understand how macdonalds would be greatly effected :0

One of their depots was next door, and it got damaged. Nothing to do with fuel shortages.
