lol what would even be the point in wasting money buying the parts?? or even paying for it was wat i was saying, my dad is also a mechanic and can get parts for next to nothing but it was still deemed pointless on my car which isnt a million miles away from the situaution u described.

shhhh i can understand wat ur husband is saying but obv u have no knowledge and think u do.im no mechanic but u hiding behind wat he says is sad not every car problem is the same i jus said that the two sounded alike and that i was told that atttempting to fix it could be a sucess like the above or could potentially write the car off

leak sorry,no a severe oil leak is where it leeks out a can of oil a week
im no mechanic but it just seemd like alot of work time and effort for such a cheap car not slating it i have the same car but imo they are nothing special, and for the price of buying it then fixing it u could get a differnt one with little or no problems

Shes not hiding behind anything mate. A leaking camshaft oil seal ain't that bad to replace and would be a good opportunity to change the timing belt as well, especially if your unsure when it was last done. Given the cost of belts, seals etc £50 should of fixed it no problem if your dads a mechanic.

Mate are you for real? Energy engines were weaping/leaking oil around the camshaft seals from the day they left the factory! So you are saying that you have bought a 'J' plated Clio, with absolutely nothing wrong with it for £500? I take it the arches are mint? I take it that the tappets aren't ticking away like a can of marbles? I take it all of the electrics are absolutely fine? I take it that the sunroof (if fitted) isn't leaking? While we're on this subject, I suppose you know the full history of the car you bought? Has the clutch been changed? How often has the oil and plugs been changed? When was the cambelt and tensioner (if you have any sense) changed? When were the brakes last checked?

If you pay very little money for a car then you have to expect that you may have to spend money getting it right! I have known many people buy cars for cheap money, run them around until the MOT is up or they die and scrap them. Shelley and Jon are looking to get this car right, so as it lasts her a couple of years. She will also be transporting kids around in the car, so it needs to be right! There is no way that I would buy a £500 car and not check it out. At least a couple of their problems are visual ones, that can be easily rectified.

If they could afford 6-7k on a second car, then i'm sure they would buy a new car! Less judgement needed IMO!
