    Another insurance question....

    Hi,

I was looking at buy a used Seat Ibiza, 52 onwards model. And when I was looking at the Seat website, and saw that they had accessories for the car. Althoguh im not 100% sure you can buy them for a used car and have them fitted. But seeing as they going to be factory fitted and are acutlly Seat recommeneded and supplied thorugh them, would they be considered modifications in the eyes of the insurance companies?

I've looked around on the net and it seems that there are differing opinions, I was wondering what you guys have expereinced?

    Thanks

I wouldn't have thought you'd need to declare factory-fit accessories. Although some companies may be more anal about it than others

always tell them, let them make their mind up. some factory fit accessories (ie alloys, bodykit, NOS (see that mg thing)) would probably up your premiums

it was an option on the mg x-power thingy, giving 1000 (or something equally rediculous) hp and making it the most powerful production car ever..

.. had it ever ACTUALLY made it into production i think they sold a base-spec one for about a week. no idea if anyone bought it.

You could probably get away without declaring factory-fit accessories, providing they are factory-fit, i.e. they were fitted at the factory when the car was brand new and unregistered.

But i'd still declare them, any excuse to invalidate it these days.

All of the forms I have seen ask you to declare all modifications, whether factory fit accessories or aftermarket ones.

They are NOT factory fitted are they, its a used car you are fitting the bits to.

I've had this arguement with insurance companies and lost - I now have to pay to insure a modified car, and pay an additional premium, becuase I have a genuine Ford bodykit on my car. I pay £40 a year more than I'd have to if I had an identical looking Zetec-S with the kit as standard.
