The Porsche 924 was designed by Porsche for VW so the second isn;t a surprise.
I dont know why a TT version of teh 6R4 engine was used by jaguar however. They were being cheapskates though - the original was supposed to have 4WD and a V12

IIRC the revised 6R4 for the abandoned Group S was going to use a turbo'd lump...basically that what was in the XJ220.

They didn't when they used the VW van engine.
When porsche designed their own engine for it and bolted on a turbocharger, then they got the performance out of it!
At which point the engine sharing becomes moot.

    EDIT:
I'm a tw@t. I got completely the wrong end of the stick.
The XJ220 certainly did get the power.
However it was at the cost of lots of lag and appalling spool. Saved them a bundle however.
Had it have been a V12 then it would have had power at any engine RPM, instantly.
However The quoted power figs for the V6 were allegedly underselling it. Apparently it mode more like 580BHP if dynoed at 20Degrees C and 1 atmosphere. The 550 BHP was quoted at 40 odd degrees!

True enough, but its probably a packaging/weight issue as much as cheaping out. And turbo lag isnt an issue in a car like that, just drive so youre always on the boost Its not like its designed for pootling in.
