You won't get 450 miles to a tank from an ST24 though, thats the 2.5 V6 with 170bhp - mine is a 2.0 16v with 135bhp.

Hmmm.... I'll have to think that one over depending upon what I think when I get to test one out as I would like to reduce my fuel bills but still want a car that I actually enjoy driving.
best thing to do is get a silly diesel then.. or, i belive the st24s are pretty easy to convert to lpg - either get one thats already converted - or budget £2k to convert one..Originally Posted by kameio
i'd personally make sure it has electric seats - i find the lack of seat cussion tilt on the manual seats frustrating.

If I had an electric driver's seat I'd be endlessly playing with it in traffic

Well after 3 days of visiting dealers, private sellers and some traders i.e. Car Giant I still haven't found something that makes me actively want to part with my cash, I did test drive a couple of Mondeos ST24's and as well as a regular diesel and I don't know why but I just didn't get on with them I can't really pin point why as they were clean examples, ST24's obviously fast but I just did not like driving them I looked at some Honda's but wasn't a fan of the interiors, pretty much check most manufacturers offerings and off course the only thing I liked was a BMW 330D but @ a little over 13k it kind of defeats the purpose of my car change but was a thing of beauty, especially to drive I never wanted a diesel so much in my life.
After dragging a mate clear across the country on the hunt for a car even I felt a little guilty at coming back with nothing I think for my price point I'm being far too fussy, but the last few cars I've had have been fairly modern with a few luxury's and I guess after all these years I'm finding it hard to adjust, I'm tempted to sink a few hundred into my Astra and get it fixed, but when I talked to my mechanic he didn't even want to look at the car after I described some of the work needed and just advised me to sell it for what I can get and cut my losses.
Howard electric seats annoy me, every time I have 2+ people in the car it takes forever to move the seat forward and the same again back and then repeat when they wanna get out, they just don't move quick enough for my liking.
I know I definitely have to change cars within the next few months at the latest and at this rate I'll be back to taking the bus and it’s been a good few years since I did that.
Cheers for the help people, it appears my quest for a car goes on, its gotten so bad I've even been trawiling owner forums looking for a clean MK1 Golf FTI as I loved the ones I had ages ago and could quite happily see myself owning one, but the few I've seen have either been modded too far or are up for 2k plus.
Surely in a Mondeo you wouldn't have to do this, unless you have extraordinary legs...Originally Posted by kameio

lol good point, I'm a fat so and so but even for me a Mondeo is a spacious vehicle, though the electric seats in my coupe are just so slow its irritating.
Yeah I know, taking the bus is something I dread especially in the mornings with the tons of school kids
I reckon if it gets close to that stage I'm just going to tax my Astra and drive that even though it sounds like an old sickly diesel.
