    Restricted to 33bhp

    Hi,
Here's a slightly new twist to all the questions and replies I have read regarding restricting a motorcycle to 33bhp.

I'm due to take my test soon, and assuming I pass, would like to ride a 500 / 600 V-Twin Cruiser type bike. I currently ride a 125 'cruiser' on 'L Plates' and love this type of bike. I'm not bothered about top-speed, 80mph is plenty fast enough, I just want the torque to gain speed quickly when overtaking slow moving traffic / pulling out into moving traffic etc..
However, because I'm only taking my test to qualify for a 33bhp I'm wondering if anyone can help with the following information?:

The cost / method of restriction?
The easiest / best bike to restrict?

    Hope you can help.
    Many thanks.

I would of paid the extra couple of quid to get the open class test before the new laws come in next year for bikers. If you aint got an open class licence as of janurary 1st 2007 you will have to do a test to ride a 250cc 400cc 500cc 600cc 900cc then open class so thats 6 tests and 6 lots of lessons to pay for. Ask your instructor about it

As for restricting a bike. Plenty dealers will restrict it for you if you ask best bikes to tinker with are the Triumphs, you won't have an issue restricting them, when I get home tomorrow I will post some links to info for you

Im guessing from teh fact that you are currently riding a 125 that you're under 21? Otherwise the direct access would have been the best route to go.

It depends what bike you are getting on the way it is restricted, usually its a washer in the carb and something in the exhaust for carbd bikes. Not sure on the more modern ones though.

The alternative is to get the licence and then jus sit on the 125 for 2 years, build up the NCB and then get a big cruiser at the end of that period, I have done similar but on a Varadero - will go onto a cbr-600 or something when I leave uni

    Hope this helps a bit,

    Dave

Grey: The new laws don't affect you if you already have taken your test, even if it is a 33bhp one, as you took it under the old laws - which means after 2 years you are unlimited However you are right to say get your test done and out the way, tis the best (I know, I did & passed with 4 minors )
