If you're leaving it down to the management to alter the timing you need to be driving it quite a bit for the changes to be made.

Unplug the ECU for 10 minutes so it forgets everything it's learned, hook it all up again, and drive it like you stole it. Sorted

All rather dependant on the design of the ECU. It's not just gonna play with the timing then, it has to run through and create an entire delta table for the fuel mix again, set up idle... blah bla

Not got closed loop fueling then? Gonna take about 20 minutes to sort itself out if it's lost the memory.

I have no O2 sensors. I have a fuel map and an ignition map which cover the entire range from idle to 8500rpm. I've got some other things to play with, such as limits, launch control, shift light, etc etc, but because there is no O2 present there is no learning enabled.

However, by adding an O2 I would benefit from this (the ECU hardware is more than capable and the B series engines that use the same ECU hardware use O2s and monitor their AFR in this way). You can even run a wideband through the ECU

Like I said... 1980's Honda PGM-FI for the win
