    Very cheap runabout advice

So, i need a car, as the insurance have decided my old one is a write off (http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.p...ght=crediting). Anyone got any ideas? Needs to be pretty decent size, reliable, and not more than 400 quids, relatively low insurance would also help.

Old style fiesta, because there are hundred apon hundreds about, cheap as chips, even me with my non mechanical experience has changed a battery, alternator and can perform basic maintainence on it.

Don't know if decent size means you want something like an old astra?. But i'd still go for the fiesta.

Another vote for the Fiesta. Cheap parts as well.

decnt size means i need to be able to fit 2 bikes in the back of it, which would be something of a challenge in a fiesta i reckon.

easy peasy. volvo 340/440. cheap, cheap to insure, cheap to run (get bits from scrapyards), reasonably reliable, can get 2 bikes in pretty easily. fairly nippy. you can get a 300 with some mot for under £100, then just use it till the mot runs out, get anohter

340 does look pretty tempting. dads insurance, and technically his car, although it was given to me, wo well have to see if i get a sniff of the money. Whats the difference between a 340, 360 and 440?

/gets very sad and agrees with 5lab

Volvo's are cheap as hell......340 are rank, 440 worse....but both are worthy of your attention

    /goes to be ill

I'd look at a Cavalier 1.6i/1.8i LS 5dr hatch about a K or L reg. Dont fear high miles. Biggest boot in the world, economical, cheap parts, not likely to have rusted totally away and has power steering, locking, windows, roof, abs, side bars, tensioners and a drivers air bag.

Corr.....felt like a proper motor trader there for a second!!!

Fiestas might be cheap to buy, but they're incredibly expensive to insure!
