    HEHE

I'm going from 3.7:1 final drive to 4.14:1

then if needs be...a 4.5:1 is possible....

    that'll shorten the bugger
    what does this mean?

3.7:1 iirc means one revolution of the crank gives you 3.7 revolutions of the drive shaft?

Basically Josh what he's saying there, if you have a "long" gearbox, you can go faster (top end) in every gear, and the opposite if you have a "short" box. Zak wants a short box cos he's in a rally car, which doesn't depend on flat out speed, but more on getting round and out of corners as quickly as possible, and being able to get the maximum acceleration in each gear, which is most important when you're flying through a twisty tight nasty bit of forest and the easiest way to change the gearing is to swap the gears that communicate the driveshafts with the gearbox.
