Actually the national mileage average is now about 15k per annum, was considered to be 13k when I stopped working for BMW and that was July 2003! 150k is nothing for one of those as long as it has been well looked after.

Thanks for the kind comments guys. To answer a few questions...

It's a Dec 01 car so not quite 5 years old, it has BMW warranty until its 5th Birthday which is nice. How can I afford it as a student - I am currently on a 1 year work placement half way through my degree, and this is where the money for the E39 comes from

And yes, I simply cannot believe the mileage. I know everyone likes to think this of their car but it truely is immaculate - there is not a single scratch on the paintwork and the only paintwork damage is a small amount of stonechips. The interior is even better than I thought after I've polished the previously mucky silver trim - it now looks virtually new. Not a squeek, rattle, mark or obvious sign of wear anyway.

I am very happy with it indeed

Enjoy - Just out of interest do the later model E39 have the cup holders in the back that just break or are already broken?
Yea, dad had a '99 (V) 523i Sport - they broke within about a week

Oh yea, they 'fixed' the rear cupholders with the facelift E39..

.. by removing them and instead I have a useless cubby hole.

Ah well. Mine's well below average - 28k in 7 years when I bought it.

To be honest I'd rather a higher mileage car over that - you pay a hefty premium for low mileage (A 28k 530i Sport is worth £14k) and its age, not mileage, which is the most harsh to a car..

    Wheels are standard, 5 speed, 231bhp, 0-60 6.5, 0-100 17.6, 155mph (limited), 30mpg, no idea on the turning circle

Please save the envy (if its there) for the people on here who actually own really expensive cars - this one cost me less than a new Fiesta 1.4.

Looks a smart motor, especially for a student.

BMW's don't "do" anything for me, but as long as your happy stuff what everyone else thinks.

Admittedly the dealer thought they were selling her a 1.25 but honoured the deal coz it was their mistake and didnt want to piss of a customer.

    Congratulations on the new car!

Not sure where you go to uni, but do you have somewhere safe for it to sleep?

Whilst I am being inquisitive, those funny angel eye thingies (cue Wetwetwet) do they actually serve any purpose or is it a parking light type thing?

    Cheers
