    Need some new bulbs

With the nights getting longer and starting earlier I've noticed the headlights on my Primera give out as much light as a match thats gone out.

I know I need H1 and H7 bulbs (one for low, one for high beam).

Been recomended Osram Silver Stars, or Osram Cool Blue's for the HID look. I'm not really bothered about the look, just good bulbs.

    Any suggestions or advice please

Don't bother with the blue bulbs, they aren't any brighter they're just for chavs wanting to annoy other drivers.

Philips and Osram silver stars are both quality bulb makes though, can't really go wrong with them.

What kind of Clio is it? Generally the Mk1's have aweful headlights at the best of times, even with super bulbs.

Philips 50%+ or osram silver star. Fantastic bulbs both of them. Tons of places to get them from - powerbulbs is good, performance bulbs is another one. Also check out EBay shops etc.

I would have gone for the Osram, but the philips were 25% cheaper so got them instead - huge difference over my old bulbs - you really do get to see further in the dark and as such they're possibly the cheapest safety upgrade you can get for your car. Highly recommended.

Nah you will just blind me from further away, increasing the chances of me putting my car in your lane... oh and if you get the blue ones, any crash probably wont be an accident...

I have bog standard 11 year old fiesta bulbs. they are more than bright enough for driving at night in country roads.

Maybe you just need glasses or shouldnt be driving if the standard ones are not good enough.

The only light thats not bright enough is my reversing one, for when I put the car in the garage every night when I get home from work.

    SilentDeath, stop being a plonker.

Not all headlights are the same - sometimes poor headlights leave a necessity for more efficient bulbs. As already stated, Mk1 Clios for example have shocking headlights which even with better bulbs still leave a lot to be desired.

When driving at night, you cannot have too much light. If you're being blinded by cars coming the other way, they're probably poorly adjusted lights for one, or on main beam. If they're adjusted correctly, light shouldn't really be getting in your way...

yup, can tell you the lights on my Clio Sport I had were ok, but the ones on my Civic sport are really good.

Neither of them are a spot on the Xenon ones on my mum's xtype tho

    Agreed.

For starters my old bulbs were really old.. so old in fact one of them went which was why I got the replacements - old bulbs can be dimmer than new ones. Secondly the silver start or 50%+ do not blind someone from further away - unless they are driving on the wrong side of the road. The extra beam length is quite clearly on the left hand side - right where you need it on country roads. If you're being blinded then the bulbs haven't been adjusted right, and it'll be picked up at an MOT or service. However, the extra distance really is worth it - I don't care how good your eyes are, there's no way you can see in the dark beyond a bulbs throw - extend the beam throw 25% and that's an extra X meters of reaction time you've gained for just 20 quid.
