    Bye Bye Pootle, Hello Dizzy!

Well I finally took the plunge...

My poor little Micra has been replaced (Donated to my brother) by a brand new Mitsubishi Colt 1.3

Long story, but involves Dad having yet more trouble with his Chrysler Yank Tank... (like, breaking down in the south of france and there's no Gearboxes in the whole of europe?!) so we goes to a little car show which does Mitsis.

Dad likes the Shogun, and I likes the Colt. So if dad buys a Shogun, I get the Colt at cost price (and they threw Metallic paint in there too for free)

So now I has a Metallic Steel Grey Colt 1.3 called Dizzy and I love it. It seriously is one of the best little cars I've driven in a while and for just under £9k it has all sorts of gadgets and gizmos! (I wouldn't buy a car that wasn't Japanese anyway) It has just the right amount of grunt and makes me smile when I pick her up from the station. (although Power Steering is still confusing me...)

I'll post some piccies when it stops raining long enough.

Yeah we had one of these when I went to Ireland, except it was the 1.1, wasn't fast (the 1.3 will be a fair bit nippier) but it drove well, even at motorway speeds, and handled the single track dirt roads/mountainside road surfaces quite nicely

Enjoy your new car, nothing like the feeling of replacing your car with something better. Hope you have many thousands of miles of fun with it

Can't help thinking it's an awful lot of money for a little car like that though

Small cars will always carry a premium - due to being in higher demand, but sounds like Tig got a good deal on it

That, and they still have all the most expensive bits in them, like all the mechanics, and upholstery. So there is a limit to how cheap you can make a car.

In theory, if everything else was the same, spending another grand on a car would get you something a lot bigger. But then you would want a bigger engine, sturdier transition to cope with that, uprated suspension to handle the extra weight yadda yadda yadda. In the end the bigger car then costs 3-4grand more

c107ygo! the aygo-esque has as much cheapification as can be gotten away with (identical passanger/driver seats to save on number of different parts, painted metal on the inside to save on faffy trimmings on things like the doors), and citroen are doing a c1 for under 6 grand on the road.

Exactly. Mine has got Air con, central locking, electric windows, CD player, seatbelt sensors alloys, disk brakes on the front. It's actually a very swish car and bearing in mind that my dad helped me out a bit with it (as they've had to bail my sister out a few times so he helped me on something I've wanted for ages) I'm only actually paying £5k for it. (after "selling" mine to my brother) Yes it does seem like a lot of money but bear in mind I got my 2nd hand VERY-Manual micra for £5k seven years ago so I don't think another 3k on luxuries and a brand new car is too bad really. (plus I get 3 years pan european breakdown, no MOT for 3 years and they give it a free service after 600 miles for any niggles!) I'm well impressed with Mitsubishis service too.

Thanks everyone, i'm glad you're all with me on this one. Dizzy really is a pleasure to drive. You know you've got the right car when you're smiling at it just sitting on the drive. She's not a bad looking car either - Metallic steel grey is a very nice colour! Also, being the mid-range, it's not cheap and tacky inside. It feels and drives like a quality car. (and dad is happy with his too, now wonders why he went for a people carrier over a 4x4 in the first place?! I would warn anyone off a YANK car if they want speedy breakdown turnaround!)

As much as i would love a new car (i don't *need* a new car), i know what you mean. Just can't bring myself to do it. Especailly when i'm taking the monthly repaiments i would be making and sticking them in an ISA
