Which Breakdown Cover

i'm looking to take out some breakdown cover and i'm not to sure on which company to go with.

I'll need roadside cover with the option of being taken to a local garage/home (which ever is nearest) if it cant be fixed by the road, as well as having some form of home help incase the car wont start at home etc.

I've looked around and the AA and RAC are pretty competitively priced with both offering 25% off when you buy online and works out to about £67 a year.

Any ideas on which is the best to go for, or is there another company (such as Green Flag) out there which would be more suited?

im with HSBC, not sure if they offer anything

I'm with the RAC never had any complaints , except mebbe the wait time ,didn't there used to be a response time for women on their own? Not any more it seems . As far as i can remember Green Flag are just the company and give the call outs to the nearest garage contracted to them ,or at least used to.That made me wary as could be more work for the garage rather than fix by the roadside .

the aa should be cheaper than that - their basic cover (which is what you're after) is normally £35/yeah

If your Car Insurance is up for renewal soon, might be worth trying Carole Nash - they bundle Breakdown cover with it (something that started with bikes), and were the cheapest for me

register to a mates house (3 miles away or so) then if it fails to start at home, ring em up and claim you're at a mates house.. wont start.. then you're good to go

I was with tesco breakdown. Think they subcontract it to Greenflag.

Reponse times are good, but they only tow you a maximum of ten miles. I've broken down twice now and was 20 miles away on each occassion, so had to pay £40 each time just to get the car back home! It's worth looking into how long they'll tow you for as it can make quite a difference if you are unfortunate enough to breakdown.

Will possibly be switching to RAC in December (I tie it in with my insurance renewal).
