Audi : less reliable than Alfa..

    http://www.whatcar.com/news-special-...866&EL=3180701

official! and based on stats, rather than 'my mate said' or 'a bloke down the pub had an audi and..'

and yes, all you fanboys will probably come and claim you've had no problem, but the FACT of the matter, based on ACTUAL WORK, is that on average, alfas break down less often, and each breakdown costs less.

    so much for german engineering

As an Audi owner, I personally think they are expensive to fix. But "unreliable"?
*umm, lol, not more expensive than the alpha though!
ALFA ROMEO 19th out of 26
    Average repair cost £397

    AUDI- 22nd
    Average repair cost £373
I save an average of £20 on my audi over an alpha... lol

You need more stats to get any real info from this list, it wouldn't really concern me unless it said "60% of A3's need expensive suspension work after 4 years."

I don't dispute the facts, but what I don't understand is this: VAG own and run VW, Audio, Skoda, SEAT, and share common parts (engines, chassis etc) yet each manufacturer has completely different reliability ratings, for example Skoda are regularly (on Top Gear surveys) in the top 5 for reliability... why?

although if you look the which table results (here) for all cars, VW are no 17, Skoda 18, SEAT 21, and Audi 22 out of 26... HECK MG and Rover are more reliable!?! Where do they get these statistics!?? edit - from Warranty Direct

If they are still assembled in different factories, and obviously don't use all the same parts, then it's down to quality control and design for the different companies. 25% of Audi's issues are suspension/electronics related, not something they necessarily share.

I have always known this. They started going downhill when they started making the Second generation A6.
My parents still have it. On average it has broken down every 3 months since new and they still insist on keeping it.

However their build is very nice and solid.

they can, but that company (happy howard :@) has nothing much to gain from making one look more or less reliable than another..

fact of the matter, for a long long time, has been that german cars are no more reliable than the rest of the field, they're just built to look and feel more expensive, so better plastics etc. in reality, an entire dashboard panel never fails, so from a reliability point of view the money is better spent elsewhere. i think the reputation is just a hangover from old (pre-90s) mercs, which really were massively over-engineered, and went on forever.

butuz - volvo s/v40 is better than any nissan
