    Mazda MX-6

Getting a pay rise in jan, so thinking about replacing the old runabout with something a bit more, well, just something actually half way decent really.

Ive seen a few mx-6s knocking around, and im pretty impressed with the looks, and very impressed with the price of them. anyone got one/driven one, most reviews say theyre pretty nice, if a little thirsty, just wondered if anyone here had an opinion

Theyre not bad. Not good though. Ford took the Mazda MX-6 and made it into the Probe.

Would you buy a Ford Probe?

There are better choices out there for your money. Whats your bodget if you dont mind me asking? And what do you want from the car?

somewhere in the 3-4k region, fairly nippy, not bad looking, reliable. Id prefer a coupe over a hatchback/saloon. And preferably something you dont see everyday.
The finances would just about stretch to an xjs i saw the other day, but unfortunately not after youve taken insurance into account (22, 1yr no claims as ive been a named driver previously)

Realiable, nippy Coupe, £3-4k. Really - I would have to suggest Nissan 200SX S14 / S14a or a Skyline R32 GTS-T. Insurance could be a bit of a problem with those, but not as bad as you would fear, particularly with a decent jap insurerer like A-Plan.

Whats your insurance budget? I suppose it all comes down to that really.

how about a couger? basically the successor to the probe (and mx6) - fair bit of poke especially in the v6 - based on a mondeo so the handlings not too bad, and a lot lot lot cheaper to fix than a jap car if/when bits go wrong.

i'd not touch an r32 skyline for that money, it'd be ragged and old.

Much as you like them , I dont think the R32 woudl be a good choice , They are just a bit to old compared with the equivilent S14a you'd pick up for the same money.

The Hyundai Coupe isn't all that bad either tbh

I recently attempted to get insurance for a 1995 MX-6.. they're all imported and there's only the GT model available... V6 2.5 motor, I'm 26, held a licence since '99 and have 4 yrs no claims and the quotes were around the 8-900 quid mark. No thanks, nice car, but unreasonably expensive to run.

and very prone to head gaskets on the back back of cylinders, which is a bugger to sort.

Gotta suggest a different car as well.

    Honda Prelude Mk5 2.2 Vtec (mine )

They are very cheap, fairly unusual and I keep loving the looks more and more the longer i have it. A slower engine is available too but 2.2 vtec is verry nice. It should be cheaper than a Nissan 200sx and even a Celica (should pwn celicas for breakfast too (apart from gt4s))

The pics of mine can be seen here: http://forums.hexus.net/showpost.php...8&postcount=66

I am afraid ivory leather interior is rare on them though. I was lucky to get one with it.

But nissan 200sxes are nice too.
