Yes - she regularly goes on all day drifting sessions at silverstone and then pretends she's just been to work!

How often was the pressure checked?

Is there other damage that would have caused it to deflate?

    Not good, hope she's ok!

I noticed my tyres this morning - they looked all iced up (along with the glass etc). I wonder if there are any small cracks in the tyre due to age, if moisture gets in there and then freezes surely it could lead to the tyre failing early like that?

    Just a theory.

Still not very impressive for a premium brand.

    I take it she's ok?
It must have been scary when it went but to me that's the sign of being ran flat.
The sidewall overheats then fails with catastrophic results.
Sorry but that is my opinion.

I would imagine all punctures that happen at 50mph end up looking like that once the car has stopped....

I think it would be quite hard to prove as a manufacturing defect - which do happen! although probably quite rare not to be spotted before fitting of the tire.

Moisture/ice shouldnt effect tyres unless they have aged a lot, at which point they should be replaced anyway. These do not look aged atall.

That looks nasty, although it could have happened to anyone really... Tyres do have to put up with a lot if you think about it!

I hope my continentals don't go the same way..!

Well, one of the girls off Renault Sports Club had the same thing happen due to defective sidewalls with her Continentals. She managed to get 4 new tyres out of them.

Hmmm - deffo looks like sidewall failure and could be due to the age of the tyre or running on them under inflated but thats so bad I think it's more likely to be a manufacturing defect!!

BTW - I'm using Uniroyal Rainsport 1's as winter tyres and the wet weather grip is simply amazing - I'd recommend these to anyone!

It looks like theve been ran-flat, theres bad-damage all the way round the tyre-wall rather than quite uniform damage in one section...

Glad your mother is ok tho... its not nice when that happens.. ive had a Toyo tyre De-laminate at high speed.. luckily i managed to pull over before it broke apart but its definately a scary experience

When I was looking at tyre weights I noticed contis are 3-4lbs lighter than the same sized competitors. Less sidewall plys maybe?
