slow acceleration

I have an X reg ford mondeo sorry dont know what year!
It is really sluggish at accelerating and the and rev counter suddenly increases and then drops right down again, if been ripped off before and would love to know roughly whats wrong so i know if they try to rip me off again.

Need more info To be honest
As above, could be clutch slipping or something else.
Whe the rev counter increases suddenly do you hear the engine note increase with it?
Do you rest your foot on the clutch at all?

Definately sounds like the clutch... if the revs rise without the car accellerating alot.

Roughly how many miles has it covered (and is it around town or motorway miles)? and has the clutch ever been changed before?

Answers to those would help point to the cause

Only to echo the above, it defo sounds like the clutch is shot. Shouldn't cost too much to get sorted on a Mondeo

Depends what you compare it to! You have to drop the whole front subframe on the mondy. It'll cost less if the garage have the handy little tools to lock all the geometry in, but it's still fairly labour intensive.

Back on track. CLutch is most likely, BUT I gotta ask....it's not wheel spin is it?

If the front tyres are totally bald, they wont even squeel/chirp/squeak. They'll just slip.

But a slipping clutch IS most likely, as I think most drivers would know wheel spin either way.

With a lot less than half the capacity/power
