    Good first car?

    Hi there.

I recently passed my driving test as some of you might know, but now I want to drive a little. My family has two cars. A manual Passat Y-Reg 2.0 TDI and a Honda Civic 16 Vavle 1.6.

The Passat I cannot get insured on and the Honda is too expensive and automatic.

Whats a cheap banger to get? I like Honda Civic's and the only requirements I have is probably power-steering and good security.

Im also worried about the fact that I wont use my car much. I mean, when I go out its normally in my mates car and that's every now and then. All other times its normally always in my town centre. So I would probably go in central maybe 1-3 times a week.

Anyhelp and suggestions would be great.

For cheap insurance how about a KA? Small nippy and cheap to insure/run.

Whats your price range? If its under £2000 to include insurace aswell, you cant really be too picky - look at a lot from papers or ebay and chose the one in best condition, which is how I got my fiesta.
If yoru getting an old car, going over 1549cc means you will pay more tax, slightly higher insurance too, but in my case it probably payed off with it being in slightly better condition than the rest I looked at.

There was only £100 differnce between a 800cc and a fiesta 1.6L SI for me in insurance.

When taking out insurance put your mum on as a named driver, I know it sounds stupid but try it. Putting my wife on my insurance took £100 of the price with the same company.
