Transferable warranty, or not...

Just wondering whether this applies to PSUs too.

WHAT PARTS ARE NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY?

The following parts are not covered by this warranty:

* Modules that are missing the label containing Corsair’s part number
* Modules that are purchased from other end users
* Modules that Corsair determines were not manufactured by Corsair, i.e., counterfeit Corsair modules

Modules seem to imply that this is for RAM only, but it mentions all the other Corsair products on that page too...

and what is the reason for excluding re-sold products (whether it is just ram or everything) from warranty? That is really putting me off buying Corsair in the future...

We cannot guarantee the condition of re-sold products sold second hand. Therefore, our warranty does not extend to products that are sold second hand. This is standard throughout pretty much any industry.

I don't see why that matters... Surely you can tell if it has been misused in any way. And why should it matter who claims? If I buy something off a forum user here and I need to claim on the warranty, I can ask the seller, (the original buyer) to fill the RMA form and I will post it off.

This is not standard practise for the companies with the best customer service. I don't mean to offend by mentioning one of your competitors, but OCZ allow RMA'ing re-sold products. I recently bought OCZ ram from these forums and it was faulty. It was very easy to RMA it with them. What's the point in having a lifetime warranty if its not really for the lifetime - it's really the "owed-time". And what would happen if the invoice (proving that I am the original owner" is lost? Will warranty be invalid?

Sorry to say, but until this changes I won't be buying Corsair again... All this means is a soon as I buy a Corsair product, the value has dropped by 30% or so.

Crucial and OCZ do not operate like this.
Their products are warranted and not the person using them/purchaser.

Yellowbeard - Can i ask, what difference does it make in Corsairs eyes whether its the purchaser or not requiring the RMA? Whoever is the user is surely has no baring on whether the Corsair product is fit for purpose or not?

And the cynic in me says why it's that's certainly commonplace in industry, if not quite standard.

It does follow the standard of legal liability, though. The general principle is that only a party to a contract can sue on it. If I buy a PSU (or whatever) from a shop, the Sale of Goods Act (etc) protects me. But if I (as a private individual) then sell it to you, the Sale of Goods Act protection doesn't extend to you. You get "caveat emptor" .... let the buyer beware. You're protected against me misrepresenting it (claiming it's a 650w unit when it's only a 400w one), and for any descriptions I give being materially accurate, but that's about it for your protection. If you even want to be sure it works, check it, because if it doesn't .....

Effectively, non-transferable warranties simply mirror that liability.

I know how this works in the high street.

I was just commenting on how Corsair operate versus other companies that operate in the same sector, on the internet, seeling products that are in direct competition ie. Crucial/OCZ to name just 2.

What about the other Companies that market PSU's....Enermax, Antec, Thermaltake, Akasa, Coolermaster, Zalman, BFG, BeQuiet, EZ Cool, Chieftec....to name a few more.............although, some of those I wouldn't touch with a bargepole....
How about PC P&C, since they are part of OCZ, do they have the same warranty options ?
