Obsidian 650D and USB 3 query

    Mr Corsair

I am looking at buying the 650D. Also looking at buying a new AMD 990FX based motherboard. These now have proper usb 3 internal headers.

Will Corsair be introducing a new front panel to include USB 3 ports that will plug into the new on board header? I don't want to route the current cable through to the back of a motherboard to make use of them.

That was something I was wondering as well, as I did not want to do that. At present I have not found a Corsair one, but for my Z77 Sabertooth motherboard Im fitting this instead. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/akasa...e-usb-30-cable.

Simple answer is no, which I think is wrong is this day and age that you have to get your own. I have a 650 & the Akasa that Scarletsboy posted and they work fine.

Re: Obsidian 650D and USB 3 query

Corsair stated they wouldn't be updating any cases using the pass through USB cable setup on their own forums:

    http://forum.corsair.com/v2/showpost...99&postcount=8

    Indeed this is very disappointing.

Re: Obsidian 650D and USB 3 query

yep i have this case too and its a shame having to run the wires all the way through, you could use an adaptor to keep the wires internal like this:

Urm, yeeah, I'm gonna have to ask you to go ahead and er... edit your post on the basis that a link to the exact same product was already posted in the first reply to this thread. That'd be great.

Just about to order this case for a new build. Should I order one of these cables mentioned or is it not necessary?

Re: Obsidian 650D and USB 3 query

Unfortunately, you guys are right. We are not going to update the front I/O port of the 650D case, that will also include the 800D and 600T. These are the cases that came out prior to MB design where the USB3.0 were still on the rear I/O panel of the MB... only later models when MB vendors started designing boards where the USB3.0 ports are made internally. Only then we've started changing the front I/O design of our cases. These changes were implemented to the Carbide series and later models.

It's either route it outside to the rear I/O port, or get the suggested adapter above.

Re: Obsidian 650D and USB 3 query

Hi, i bought 650d and it is indeed a very fine case but, well...during building a sytem I accidentally snaped the hot swap bay sata power cable. So now obviously I would need a new set of cables for hot swap bay. Would that even be possible ? I already took out the cables (just 2 screws and it comes off) so there has to be an option for a replacement. I looked on Corsair site for 650d replacement parts and it isn't listed there.

Re: Obsidian 650D and USB 3 query

Sorry to hear that. I'm afraid that piece is not replaceable, thus, its not listed on our website. How long have you had the case now?

Let me check with our customer service and see if there some spare parts here on hand where we can maybe send to you.

In the meantime, I'd suggest that you submit a ticket so we can track your request.

Re: Obsidian 650D and USB 3 query

I have already submited the ticket, the number is: 6176893. For the part number I chose CC650D-SIDE because I didn't know what to choose from. My case is approximately 1 week old.

Re: Obsidian 650D and USB 3 query

Thanks. Don't worry about the part #, I can handle that from the back end.

I've passed it along to our customer service and made then aware that the part you need is not listed on the standard part replacement. I'll update your ticket once we can an answer from them.

Thank you very much for the support I am not quite familiar with the procedure though, do i have to send the broken part back to the posted shipping URL address? Or do you maybe need the receipt.
