Why not use the bottom of your foot then you got even less chance ... ever better - why not use a Multimeter

You might have done that. The point is, the first time you touch something, do it with the back of your hand!

The voltage from the caps in a PSU is only 110V each (wave rectification) so they aren't gonna do you much harm - no need to worry about leaving a PSU unplugged for two days, dicharging them is easy anyway.

As for leaving it plugged in and on at the plug - duh! Still, as long as you don't end on hanging on to it and doing some damange, electric shocks can be fun from time to time, lol.

0.1V is enough to kill you.

    It's the current that counts.

(But you'd need wet hands before 0.1V would get through the surface of the skin. Even then 0.1V may not get through. But 2000V at an extremely low current would sting but probably not kill you. )

Yeah I got a few from electric fences before, can be pretty nasty. Once tried to duck under an fence on the edge of a c15 foot drop down into a stream. Touched my back on the fence and it through me right off the bank and down into the stream, not nice!

Worst time it happened with 240v was when i was fixing a ceiling rose for a light in an old house. I told a friend to turn off power who didnt know the power layout in the house. THe power seemed off when we tried adjacent lights so i went up on ladder (in a stairwell) and proceeded to undo the rose. All was fine untill i decided to cut off the the knackered fitting with the sidecutters. Needless to say the power was actually on and i was greeted by a tremendous shower of sparks and a shock which blew me off the ladder and down the stairs! Completely knacjered the side cutters.

Never again have i trusted the mains switches in old houses!!!

thought id give my idiotic story too, as everyone else has.

Back when i was first starting to build PCS and change stuff i decided to see if my CD-ROm drive was hot-swappable, thinking its better to be sfe than sorry i "made" a wrist strap out of copper wire and attached it to the case. Feeling pretty confident i proceeded to screw it in, unofrtunaltly i didnt notice the dodgy and broken molex commenector left over from a previous mod attempt with the bare wire, as i picked up the lead to plug in my CD drive, it disloged the bare wire, which touched the case, and as you can imaging, sent a shock right up the "Anti- static strap" and gave me one hell of a shock. last time i ever poked around inside a PC with the power on. lol

It may interest you to know that you are not the only person foolish enough to have done that, for I too got a shock, when I tried to get a slice of toast out, with the end of a spoon.

I've had one other shock, when I reached under my carpet to get something. My Dad, being the cowboy that he is, had put a lamp on my bedside cabinet, with the plug on the other side of the room, and just bare wires below the carpet.

I grabed it, and the muscle in my right arm contracted and relaxed at a fantastic rate, and for a few seconds, I couldn't let go. Didn't hurt as such, but it wasn't the nicest feeling.

I've never had a strong electric shock.. just seem to get little ones!
I once counted over 50 in a single day at the shop I used to work at, Basically everytime I touched a metal door handle it would shock me
By the end of my 9 till 6 shift I was too paranoid and afraid to open any door and had to get someone to do it for me!

It seems that majority of ppl seem to be havin these accidents cos they arn't listenin to rules..

Last week, due to me not listenin to safety regulations at work, I got a small rusty flake of paint stuck in my eye.. right next to my iris.

I spent 4 hours waitin to get it sorted and was then informed that I would have to have it scrapped out with a needle.. a NEEDLE in the EYE!!!
