Re: Vapouriser, My Very First Watercooled PC........

You only need silver in the loop if you are using distilled/deionised water.
The silver stops the build up of bacteria in the water blocks and rads (cuts down cooling efficiency).
The Primochill has this built in but as Peter said it is up to the individual if the want to add a coil of silver.
Anyway it will not cause any problems if you do.

I was going to put a couple of these little bad boys in the loop:

EDIT: Also when tightening the fittings with 'o' rings how tight are you meant to go?

Re: Vapouriser, My Very First Watercooled PC........

Syd nice to see you over on chilled, just hope you do not leave us on Hexus.

As for the fittings, I have not used bitspower. When looking at pictures they look like they have a coating on them to stop it from tarnishing.
The product description says they will help with the build up of bacteria and Tom is very well informed. Where are you going to put them?

As for tightening the fittings, that is quit hard to explain.
You have to ensure they are tight so they do not leak but if you over tighten them then the o ring can split.
The best way is to put them in finger tight and then tighten with a short spanner (should get about 90 degrees turn)

Def not leaving Hexus Chilled is another gr8 forum but Hexus will always feel like home!!

The Bitspower I linked apparently have a 99.9% silver plate so should help prevent build up I hope, and look nice in the process. I was going to put them in the Res and in the Koolance drain valve.

And I am glad I asked re the fittings I was thinking that 'tight' finger tight would be ok

Regarding the loop - how bout this:

    Res > Pump > Drain Valve > 120.4 > 285Block > GTS240 > CPU Block > Temp Sensor> Res

I keep reading Cpu before Gpu but would it be OK with 2 rads or do I really need to Swap the GPU and CPU blocks around. I have only thought this way for neatness and logical flow.

EDIT: Also re cleaning Radiators - I have some Isopropyl Alcohol at home should I use this or just stick to Hot water and vinegar, the rads are PA120.4 and a GTS240Stealth.

BTW are you 'Pig' over on Chilled?

Re: Vapouriser, My Very First Watercooled PC........

Regarding your loop, are you going for the i7?

    If you are, then

    Res > Pump > 120.4 > CPU Block > GTS240 > 285Block > Temp Sensor> Res

If you are using a socket 775, then

    Res > Pump > 120.4 > 285Block > GTS240 > CPU Block > Temp Sensor> Res

The idea being, you put the largest rad before the hottest item in loop, so you get the biggest heat transfer.

Also the drain should be at the lowest point in your loop!!!
In your case, on the bottom of the 120.4.

As for cleaning thermochill rads, they react badly to different chemicals (even vinegar)
If you flush it through quickly, there should be no problem but most people use a plastic jug, deionised water (Tesco) and microwave until boiling.
Flush the rad out a few times and all the manufacturing residue will be removed.

As for PIG, that's not me!!!
Will have to keep you guessing lol

Re: Vapouriser, My Very First Watercooled PC........

OK, not had long tonight but time to start flushing my rads,
    here are the beasties

Tescos didn't have any De-Ionised water but had some distilled from a while back so in the microwave it goes, 5 mins and a hot pyrex jug later.............

This was the result of the first pass:

20 mins later, Second pass pretty similar....

40 mins later, third pass still looks similar, now run out of distilled water!!

    Syd
Can you post a picture looking down on the xspc top?
I say this because it is possible to fit the top incorrectly and it will rub the blue impeller

I say this because it is possible to fit the top incorrectly and it will rub the blue impeller
Will do later , I did read in the instructions that you have to line up the aperture in the top with the blue thingy in the pump which I did to the best of my ability But will def post a pic to make sure it's OK.

How many flushes do you think it normally takes to clear a rad??

Re: Vapouriser, My Very First Watercooled PC........

That's a hard one to answer as different rads have different amounts of debris inside.
As you are collecting the water after a flush, the water out should be the same as the water in.
This may not always be possible as the water will always have a slight discolouration from this process.
The best you can hope for is give it a few more flushes and you will have a nice clean loop to start with.

Re: Vapouriser, My Very First Watercooled PC........

Looking at your second picture. The blue impeller looks like it is touching the XSPC top.
(above the XS and between the delivery thread)
There is very little clearance in this area and there has to be a very small gap.
If there is no gap then the top will rub on the impeller, causing a lot of noise and heat.
Undo the screws and push the top forward to increase the clearance.
There should be only enough to see a very small amount of light between the two parts.
    Hope this helps.
