What we really need are more blockbuster hollywood movies being made now. People aren't going to re-buy their DVDs as there is little point. They won't start until prices have dropped and we all have Blu-Ray players in our homes. There isn't anything Sony can do anything about it (other then make more movies!).

Casino Royale is the first big NEW film to be released, and I think it'll be the biggest selling Blu-Ray disk to date. Hellboy might also help, but I'm not sure. It'll be the first film to draw people to HD formats because there won't be any of the "I don't need it because I have the DVD" we've been hearing.

I've just sent my CR pre-order in to amazon (£14 bargain!). I don't want to wait for Sony to send me my complimentary copy if I get my PS3 registered fast enough.

Don't think Hellboy will draw that many tbh, as it's already been out on DVD for a while (as has the obligatory director's cut 3-disc version) and any fans will have alreay bought it.

What they need to do is have a quicker release schedule between cinema > blue-ray like they did with the initial DVD releases...

or they can simple release the blu ray version of films first, followed by the dvd release within a month or so..

that could help people to persuade to by a blu ray player knowing that movies come out first on a blu ray

They'd be scared, quite rightly, of losing out on DVD income. They probably make the same on each format, and only Sony themselves would have anything to gain from pushing Blu-Ray in this manner.
