Keeping nagging them Menthel. I have had the same 3 red quadrant thing happen with mine, and its happened to a good many others here too (several recently).
I think its unreasonable for them not to repair it for free. These things should last a good few years really. I don't expect to have to buy another/pay for repair after spending £280 on a games console.
Call up again and complain and hopefully you will get someone who is willing to help.
How old was your console when it died?

You can argue your case under the 1982 Sales of Goods Act that states goods must have a reasonable life expectancy when supplied. Not to mention there's been recent EU court rulings that require electrical goods to last something like 2 years from date of sale.
Hello, I'm new to the forums and was directed here by a few friends who said you could all maybe be of some help... It's sort of nice to "be in the company" of people who have experienced the same problem as me (3 red LEDs).
Heres a run down of what I've done since the problem first started:
The 360 just randomly froze one day about 2 weeks ago and gave me 3 red lights so I stopped using it. It started to work again soon after but only if it had been left on long enough and was of the correct temperature. Towels were absolutely not involved.
Having bought my console at launch, it's obviously outwith its warranty period and the shop wouldn't take it back.
I called India.. I mean, Microsoft and told them my problem. I was asked to pay £85 and requested to be put through to someone with more authority to see if I could resolve it in a more favourable way.
I spoke to a supervisor who told me that "if something breaks you pay to get it fixed. Thats just the way it is." She also stated that there was no-one who could be contacted within the entire company with more authority than she.
I just couldn't seem to get them even just to recognise that the problem with my 360 doesn't completely affect its operation since it still works and that £85 to repair a console which has a problem which seems to be commonplace is quite ridiculous.
I saw on the BBC's watchdog website that a viewer had had their console replaced by Microsoft with some games thrown in to boot. Why the double standards!?!?
Does anyone know who it would be best to contact within Microsoft other than their useless customer service? Or maybe even someone outwith Microsoft who it would be worthwhile getting in touch with?
Thanks for any help.
Grant.
a few places repair them for less than MS do, dunno bout quality but from having a look at some of the interals of out of warranty 360's it can be anything from a buggered mainboard to a simple fan failure (3 rings can be overheating as we foucnd out lol)
Mine died a few weeks ago and was just out of warrenty and they wanted to charge me full wack as well but I just nagged and they caved in and got the whole job done for free and got the warrenty renewed so I would say just try that.
You mean nag to the customer service people?
Can you give some advice on what to nag about? I was stuck on the phone for the best part of an hour but they were just so very very stubborn about the whole thing.
buy a PS3 - you know it makes sense.
I'm going to call MS again tomorrow I think. I hope I get lucky and get a free replacement. Hope all goes well for you too Menthel.
Thanks for your responses.
Apart from you Barrichello.
You were not helpful.
Stick to the racing.
I think I may be out of luck as mine is nearly 18 months old from manufacture, but I will try!

cannot belive it, would never on this earth buy a console if it was going to break on me just out of warranty like they all seem to do.
good luck menthel just nag and nag and nag
Just phoned microsoft again, no complaint at all and was offered a free repair straight away! Yay!

That's good news Menthel! Makes me feel hopeful now! I couldn't call today since I was helping dad re-roof the shed..... Tomorrow I'll call though and hopefully put a stop to my 360 withdrawal symptoms!
Mine was within a few months of buying it brand new. Barely any use at all either as i dont really get the chance to play games during term time.
It was replaced with another console. It has frozen a few times since . I cant see this lasting, without at least a repair, for the next couple of years. Shoddy hardware imo
