    Disc Scratching

My 360 has put a set of circular scratches around the outside of my GoW disc. I now cant play it for more than an hour without the game crashing with a disc read error

Has anyone else experienced scratched discs? What position did you have the system in? It goes without saying that im not stupid enough to move the system while there is a disc in the tray and definitely not while the machine plugged in and switched on.

I am also getting more lockups while playing stranglehold and rainbow 6 (demo versions admittedly, so not the most stable). Looks like my second 360 is on the way out

I have bioshock arriving friday and i would really like to play it but i dont want the 360 grating that either.

    Re: Disc Scratching

I've never owned a 360 myself, but the disc scratching is a well known issue. I think its said to be mainly caused when using it in the vertical position, but Im sure someone else will verify that.

that's the info that is being passed around yes, makes sense that it would occur like that too from a technical standpoint.

no scratches with mine yet, i do check every few days tho.

    £10 to replace the disc.

So my games are ruined by an inherent hardware flaw and i have to pay for this. And if your console has scratched a game not on Microsofts replacement list, your screwed. Lovely

    I stand corrected......

You're absolutely right though! On another note, I ditched Windows a year ago now and would never dream of going back.

    Re: Disc Scratching

Its hardly limited to X360 discs. I can remember my PC BF1942 disc getting so used it completely shattered. Same story, 4 week turn round and £7.50 + sending postage cost for replacement.

It's just something that can happen.

    Re: Disc Scratching

Get some brasso on it, put a bit on a clean clot, rub the scratched area until it's gone, you might find you get tiny scratches, but it's better than a big gash.

    Re: Disc Scratching

Rainbow 6 vegas locks up even on the full game - I had my xbox lock up playing online 4 times before I got fed up and played oblivion instead.

Have a read of This and check the fixes they've implemented.

Yeah Rainbow Six is a pain in the ass when it comes to freezing, it's find during the single player, but can be awful online. I think it might be a connection issue, maybe to do with strict NATs. I say this because I was doing T-hunt with one group, got shot, froze, went off for a few hours with a different group, was fine, went back to the original group, froze again.
