Returning an Xbox for repair without a receipt?

Can you still return an xbox for repair of the red rings of death even if you don't have the receipt?

A friend at works xbox died yesterday and I've told him he should still be able to get it fixed for free as all xbox's are still under warranty at the moment.

Just hoping I am right

Cheers guys. He never even knew that MS has extended the warranty to 3 years and was going to buy a new one. I'll send him a text now letting him know.

Could always speak to MS as an alternative if the shop doesnt want to know.

20-25 day wait I hear at the moment tho as they are actually fixing units rather than shipping refurbs.

If taking it back to the store, yes. Not for MS repain though. I didn't.

Not necessarily.

You'd almost certainly be expected to produce proof of purchase, but that doesn't necessarily have to be a receipt. It is, however, by far the easiest way to establish proof of purchase, so it is highly desirable if not exactly mandatory.

Bank statement would prove a certain figure was paid, which would probably be enough.

ahh yea i suppose thats valid proof considereing nowadays you can simply print off yur bank statement from the internte or do they need the original copy? also if you buy the 360 with cash that kind of elemenates the method all together

An original I guess. Just walk into any branch and they'll print off whatever you want. I dont think many people pay by cash, but yes, they would be stumped.

I personally keep a shoe box with all receipts in. They dont exactly take up much space and can be a life saver.
