    XBox 360 "no av output"

    Hi,

I've got an Xbox 360 it boots up and turns on but there's no AV or HD output, there are no red segments on the ring, nothing appears to be making any unusual noises, it simply doesn't pick up on the tv.

What do you think could be the problem with my console?

    Yours gratefully,

    Lee

Re: XBox 360 "no av output"

Just to clarify, when you say no AV or HD output I assume you have tried all the differant plugs? Just making sure you realize there is a switch on the plug to transfer from SD to HD ( which it sounds like you do )

If you set it to HD, just the component connections.

Re: XBox 360 "no av output"

I had the same thing - sound, but no picture, on both a HD lead, and SD lead.

If it helps, my picture was going wappy (for want of a better word, perhaps tearing?) for a while before it went completely.

This problem is covered by a slightly extended warranty of 14 months from time of purchase, which was lucky for me, as I'd had my console for 13 months!

Got it back from microsoft now though, and it's fine.

    Hope you get it sorted.

Oh, and if you're over 14 months, I gather you can get 3 red lights by covering the console with a towel or something and leaving it running, to "cook it".

Re: XBox 360 "no av output"

    Hi,

Thanks for the replies, yeah, the console doesn't have a switch on the back or on the cable to change the signal. When its turned on its seems that there is no signal for the tv to pick up. No picture, nothing received. Do you think it could be the cable is faulty? There are no red lights.

that doesn't quite add up - the 360 component lead has a little switch on it to force the console into HD or SD mode, and you said in your first post that you'd tried both SD and HD

that and you should be getting 4 red lights if there's an AV cable problem

which cables EXACTLY are you using?

Found the switch on the side of the official cable, I flipped it using both the TV and HDMI and there is nothing read on the tv.

HDMI? that switch changes the resolution that's output via the COMPONENT cables. if you're tuned into your TV's HDMI channel then no surprises if you don't see anything

Flip the switch to SD mode and scroll through all the channels on your tv.

Re: XBox 360 "no av output"

    Hi,

Yeah, tried that, went through all the 89 channels with the cable set to "tv" and there's still no signal being picked up from the tv. We put a PS2 to the tv and that was picked up fine.

Okay I'm confused. Lets clarify, what colour are the cables that are plugged into your tv?

Re: XBox 360 "no av output"

Well if you've scrolled through all of the AV channels and you still can't see an image then it sounds like you've got a faulty xbox.

the color of the WIRE is irrelevant.

he's asking what color CONNECTORS are in use.

the official 360 AV cables are as follows:

VGA (plugs into a computer monitor or most HDTVs):

Component (supplied with Premium system; connects to all HDTVs using the R/G/B/R/W cables or SDTV using the Y/R/W cables)

SCART (plugs into pretty much any TV; SD only):

Composite (bundled with core system, connects to any TV ever, SD only):

S-Video (connects to most TVs, SD only):

With the exception of the SCART cable, you must switch your TV to the appropriate input using the "source" button. SCART will switch automatically when the console is turned on - however, only a true SCART cable will do this, not an s-video or composite cable plugged into a SCART adapter)

Re: XBox 360 "no av output"

    Hi,

Its the composite cable, the three av connectors have been placed into a scart block and placed into the back of the only scart lead port. The tv does automatically connect its self to the scart channels, it did with the PS2. If the Xbox is faulty, what component within the console do you think would need replacing?

the entire console would need sending back to microsoft for repair

however, scart adapters really don't autoswitch (the protocol for switching involves sending a signal to the TV on pin 21 of the connector, this pin isn't wired up in adapter blocks).

make SURE you check all the scart channels (often called EXT1, EXT2, EXT3) before attempting to get service from microsoft, as there are major delays at the moment
