So it seems one thing you shouldn't do is try to play a SD DVD at 1080p as the PS3 just black screens, and you have to hard restart from a plug at the wall.

    Re: Okay I've just bought a PS3....

To me, that PS thread seemed more like folk were trying to run 1080p on non 1080p TV's. Didn't really seem like they knew what they were talking about, as with many PS community threads I had a quick Google but couldn't really see any more about it ?

Anyway, I'm using 60g/b but I know plenty of folk running 1080p scaling on the 40g/b. Set-up my brother-in-laws 40g/b not too long ago and it worked fine on his.

Do you have the latest firmware ? 1080p scaling was added in an update, around the same time as the 40g/b launch. I guess some 40g/b's came to market without that patch, so if they've not been updated, they won't have 1080p capability.

But then, if you have the option for 1080p, you must have downloaded the update ?!

    Re: Okay I've just bought a PS3....

The US store has more demo's (ones that you wont see on the UK store if ever at all), plus you get more trailers many more trailers, US films always seems to be released there before over here, so you get early trailers, BUT you cant buy anything from the US store, American addy given to create a US profile so your credit card has to have the same addy details, It's well worth it though for the early film trailers and demos.
Oh gamer cards are on there way so you'll be able to buy anything from any store
