    360 repairs

Im in the process of buying a friends Xbox 360 that had has a broken disk tray, as it was out of warranty he decided to just open it up and have a go at fixing it himself but it didn't solve anything. Obviously that had broken the seal which makes it unable to send to MS themselves to repair, even at a cost..

Is it repairable myself or should i send it to someone? So does anyone know much about getting a 360 repaired by an independent place, such as who are the best people to use etc?

    thanks

    Re: 360 repairs

Your right in thinking MS wont touch it with a bargepole now the seal is broken. There's a few other companies listed that claim to repair 360s, probably best to try one of them.

I've seen it mentioned on other forums, apparently it is repairable by yourself, but involves a bit of hacking as if you put in another 360 dvd drive it will be rejected as the DVD drive security codes wont match with whats programmed into the 360 system so it will know it's not the original dvd drive.

If it were me, i'd have a crack at it myself, installing a new DVD drive just requires a bit of modding so that the xbox accepts the new drive....

if you don't fancy that, the usual crowd of 'make a quid a minute' fixers on eBay would probably sort you out

    Re: 360 repairs

check out a few of the 'dodgy firmware' sites, they normally sell replacement bits

you can get the drives for about £20, check ebay for parts, mind I would go for a better performing drive if it was me

    Re: 360 repairs

I sent back a 2nd hand 360 i purchased that didnt have any seal on the front and they fixed it no question. A customer of mine sent back his 'naughty' 360 and got it sent back without a problem too. Id just send it back whats the worst that could happen they send it back broken.

Edit, you cant buy another drive and just shove it in, the drive is locked to the console.

    Re: 360 repairs

Cheers guys, Yeah i read that the drive wont be accepted. supposedly the 360 has been sent of to his uncle who is going to have a go at fixing it, If he has no luck its my turn

I might as well try sending it off i suppose, al i can lose is the postage fee. If all else fails ill just have a look into 3rd party repair.

    Re: 360 repairs

Take the drive out and buy the identical one from ebay, open both drives and swap the PCB over. Put new drive in xbox with old PCB. No messing with flashing and no fuss. Can even carry on using it on live.
