The 80gb version first came out in August 2007 and is NTSC only, it has got backwards compatibilty but only software emulation rather than the Emotion Engine, it has the 4 usb ports with the flash card reader and still seem to be in production.

Its really unfortunate that Sony pulled out the backward compatibility. I really wanted to play the Final Fantasy stuff.
