Word of warning for second hand 360 users

You have no warranty! I just called up to get mine fixed after it RROD'ed, got the guy I bought it from details, and got the 'warranty' transfered when I called up, he then turned round and said, well that'll be £60, even though it was within the 3 year RROD period. Then wouldn't let me cancel what we just did, so I could get my mate that I bought it from to call up and get it fixed. Even asked to talk to a supervisor after the guy gave me the same **** about a policy I wasn't fussed about, and was told to phone back in 2 hours because of maintenance.

Yes, I should have read up about it first, but I never thought it would be an issue. (I hope this is more a word of warning than rant )

Odd what you've described, my housemate phoned up to get his 360 repaired which was brought from ebay. MS support asked for no proof of purchase and just arranged UPS to come pick it up.

The guy before probably hadn't registered the console, so m$ wouldn't have known that there was a previous owner, would be my guess.

I wouldnt buy a 2nd hand 360 if it was £50, just WAY too much hassle. You KNOW its going to blow up at some point.

thats quite worrying, mines preowned and ive had it over 2 years!

fingers crossed i have the only console in the world that'll never die!

though it does sit next to an open window which might help, fingers crossed its rain proof so far so good

My xbox threw up 3 red lights last nights... very dissapointed... they are coming to collect tomorrow

However... your situation sounds very similar to what they had told my mate... he ended up getting a new console and selling his old one for spares/repair... it worked out cheaper for him

Re: Word of warning for second hand 360 users

If you can't get a warranty repair for any reason, the 3RLOD are surprisingly easy to fix on your own. It's a complete mystery to me how microsoft have let this problem go on for so long when it is so easy to fix. See here http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=595746 the rbjtech method is the one I used, probably over a year ago now, and I haven't had a single problem yet. A 90+% success rate is pretty amazing for a homebrew fix.

I have a launch day machine that 3ROL. Used the X-Clamps replacement ages ago and still works without an issue.

Why they still use them is indeed a mystery.

Re: Word of warning for second hand 360 users

Funny you guys mention that, my mum just highlighted a x clamp kit on ebay for a fiver, that I might just go for, and tbh, I don't have much else better to do. From looking at the videos the worst part looks like getting at the motherboard itself. Should the tools required to get into it be in a standard tool kit?

Re: Word of warning for second hand 360 users

Well, I got the kit today, and managed to fix it myself, got it running now. I could swear it sounds louder or it might just be because I've not heard a 360 running for a while.

Re: Word of warning for second hand 360 users

Microsoft are dropping the price of consoles by £30 in the UK so there is no point messing about with second hand ones when you can get a brand new arcade for just over a ton with 3 years warranty.
