My 80gb ps3 wont play ps2 games

i was wondering if i bought a PS3 Memory Card Adapter would it allow me to copy my ps2 memorry over, and let me play my ps2 games because if you have your ps2 system file on the ps3 will it not help it to be compatible because when ever i put a ps2 to game in my 80gb all it says is disc not compatible.

Nope - it doesn't work like that.

It needs more than just the game file to run it. It'll probably have a completely different operating system, so it won't run it at all. There are some PS3s that are compatible with some games, but they're mainly in america afaik, and they may even have stopped making them too.

You need the original uk 60gb model or one of the foreign models to play ps2 games.

only ps3 models with some or all of the physical ps2 chips inside can play ps2 games - full chipset for full compatibility, half chipset for part-emulated limited compatibility

the only UK ps3 to play ps2 games is the 60gb model.

as other have already said, only a few versions from different countries can play ps2 games. the uk 60gb ps3 has partial hardware-emulated compatibility. whereas i think the US and Jap machines were all hardware and not partially software. have to be careful though as i've heard that you need to have the same region machine as the game in order to play ps2 games. so a uk ps2 game disc won't work on a US or jap machine
