    360 repair

UPS have just picked up my 360 for its latest repair.

I bought it sometime in March 2006 iirc and its a first revision Zephyr. It has been back to MS before within a few months of having it with the RROD error but its always had disc reading problems too. I put these occasional errors down to possibly dodgy discs but RE5 has finally pushed it over the edge.

According to the online repair site the warranty is still valid (until October) but I dont think the drive is covered so I am going to have to wait and see what they say. If I have to pay for a repair then I may be better off getting a Jasper arcade instead.

Anyone sent one off for repair recently? How long did it take?

    Re: 360 repair

Around 15 days, not too bad considering you get a free months sub when it comes back.

RROD is covered for 3 years, the rest of the unit only one,
maybe you'll be lucky and they will just swap the unit over.

    Re: 360 repair

Let me know how you get on with the drive issues dude, a friend of mine's been having drive issues as well to the point where his 360 will no longer read anything at all so I'd be interested to know what Microsoft has to say about it.

    Re: 360 repair

Not too long at all then considering its going to Germany and back. Luckily I have the PS3 and Wii to entertain me in its absence

Knox, will do mate. Since before the orignal rrod I have had the dirty or damaged disc read error message. This happened with Command Conquer, GoW and GoW2 etc but only ever intermittently, so it was never too much of a problem. With Resident Evil 5, the problem became far more frequent before a new error occurred, with a message about not being able to read the disc at all.

It seems to be quite a common problem, after the rrod of course.

    Re: 360 repair

My last repair took just 10 days from me dropping it off at UPS.

They test the drives before the xbox is sent back and if they are found to be faulty they will also replace it. I had problems with mine getting the disc error message now and then when loading the maps on CoD4, it was the only game I had any trouble with. When the xbox went for a RROD repair they also changed the drive at the same time.

    Re: 360 repair

I recently sent mine off for repair, it only took about 10 days and i sent it over the xmas period.
The unit i sent off, had disc problems along with the RROD. I sent it off as it was entitled to a free repair.
I recived a new unit, and therefore it didn't have disc read errors. I dont belive the disc read is covered by the full three year warranty - this is only the RROD. There is a standard one year warranty on any faults. If you wish for it to be repaired after this period i believe the cost is £50.

In my personal experience, most people seem to recieve new units so hopefully you will too.

    Best of luck mate.

    Re: 360 repair

I had to get mine replaced about a month ago as well... was also a Zephyr console i believe (first gen. Elite).

Only problem with it was an RRoD (on the day i bought fallout 3 no less) and they sent it back to me 10ish days after i had it picked up. Came with a 1 Month Free Xbox Live Gold card and a letter saying they'd replaced the mobo and the DVD drive.

All in all was rather impressed with the service.

I very much doubt you'll recieve the same console back so i wouldnt worry about its dodgy drive

    Re: 360 repair

i Had my same console back after the ROD with the Mobo and Drive swapped out.

My mate though whose warrenty had expired just bought a new laser for his disc drive. Cost him less then a £10. Not bad if you can swap it yourself

So just the plastic casing was the same? That would be fine with me

Its on the way back apparently, should get it in the next few days.

Yes weirdly they kept my serial number but gave me a new system!! Was expecting to be without it for ages but it was a quick turnaround

    Re: 360 repair

I got it back yesterday with a letter saying that they have replaced the system. It's another refurb Zephyr and its even noisier (fan not drive) than the last one, but so long as it works I can live with it.

On a similar subject, someone I know is going to be selling his 360 with RRoD because he "can't be arsed sending it back".

Don't know the exact model, but assuming it's under 3 years old, is it easy to get it swapped out if you're not the original owner?
