    Xbox finally kicked the bucket

Started playing some Half Life 2 when I got a load of artifacts and crashes. After restarting several times I kept getting the 3 red lights constantly. Xbox is definitely dead . Filled out the repair form and should hopefully get my coffin soon.

For anyone who has had their xbox repaired... if your xbox is a launch console (or bought a few months after launch) and is therefore incredibly noisy, is there any chance you will get a quieter replacement console instead of just your own repaired? I know it's unlikely, but I can hope .

In my experience noise level seems to be down to luck of the draw, I've gone through six consoles myself and repaired a fair number also. Currently have one launch console and two Jasper revisions, the launch is by far the quietest of the three.

Get alot of drive vibration on one of the Jaspers, nothing a bit of cardboard doesn't sort although the fan noise is still somewhat louder than the launch.

Re: Xbox finally kicked the bucket

Mine just seems to be the noise from the fans. It's ridiculously loud compared to my friends xbox which he bought shortly after launch as well. I guess there's nothing I can do about it though, at least it's lasted this long without problems.

Not sure if it's the same now but I've never had the same console back after 3 seperate repairs.
Maybe you'll get lucky and get a slightly less noisey one back.

They replaced the motherboard and DVD drive in mine, but then the DVD drive was partially broken anyway (it would only open when horizontal, I think part of the opening mechanism had snapped).

Sorry about hijacking an old thread but didn't want to start a new one.

Does anyone know if Microsoft still send a box out to you for RROD? Mine just did it again for the 3rd time .

Re: Xbox finally kicked the bucket

I had to get my own box to send when mine died 2 years ago. They did send a pre-paid label (.pdf) to go on the box though.

Cool Re: Xbox finally kicked the bucket

I got a replacement newer model when mines got the RROD but it was just as noisy, the fan is really bad. I like the Xbox 360 but the noise level is unacceptable I have just bought WDTV Live to replace it as I mostly use it to watch TV I only have a few games but couldn't put up with the noise anymore.

Not any more, just a UPS label to print & stick on your own packaging.
