And this is any different to what Nintendo or MS do? So many people ranting about price of the GO (even if Sony haven't announced a UK price yet) but look how many people moaned about the price of the DSi. A massive hike in price, but what did you actually get for your money? A piss poor camera, poorer battery life and no GBA support, yet people bought it, does any one really think that no one will buy the GO?
I dont know the figures on the manufacturing costs for the dsi so cant comment on taht.
I dont know how well the PSPgo will sell because sony have seemingly turned away from Retail for game distribution. With the lack of backwards compatibilty for the psp catalogue so far I cant see people updating in the same way they did with the DSI after all the dsi still plays all the ds games.
I read an article last week talkjing about the psp and it had quotes from the owner of chips and another game chain both had about 20-30 shops each. They where talking about the PSP and said that they sell about 4 a week accross all the stores. here ya go http://www.destructoid.com/retailer-...o-137477.phtml

Your initial comment states that the PSP hugely outsells the DS/DSi. You never stated a year just a general it outsells etc Bit of a red rag to a bull really. Not going to get into exact figures (you can find them if you want) but the PSP sales (Total in Japan)to March 09 are approx 11m to the DS's (all 3 versions) 26M.
Last year seems to have been a good one for the PSP with monster hunter being released, but how many must have games does the PSP actually have? Not many, but i expect to see sales surge come 1st Oct when GT Mobile is released.
I'm going to be interested in the sales of the GO. We see lots of people making comments about downloading games is the way to go, especially with PC games. But this will be the first time we will see if people really want media free games. If Sony really want to make the GO a success they have to look into providing a digital copy of games that we already own, perhaps a trade in system where we send UMD games direct to Sony or a shop chain, and in return we get a download code.
The backward compatibility issue could be a major stumbling block and Sony need to make some sort of announcement sooner rather than later.
I read that last week as well. If i was Sony i would really be pushing the GO harder than what they seem to be doing. Its a brave move to release a new variant of hardware in the middle of a recession, the DSi slaes have been good, but can the GO match them with a slightly higher price* point? Time will tell.
*Sony have said that the GO will be sold at the original price of the PSP on its release, which was £180 in the UK. £30 more than the DSi isn't too bad. But with the exchange rate being what it is, i do see the price £200 (but i hope not) It does bother me that they have still to announce the UK pricing.
Agreed, Although I did hear that sony have said that you can always keep your old PSP to play umd games and the pspgo to play newer stuff. If this is going to be there stance then its worrying.
Digital Distribution has been touted as the future for years but I do still think that there is room for both physical and virtual game sales.
The average PSP game is currently anything between 500 MB and 1 GB . Now I am assuming these are already pretty compressed but if they arent then say games can get down to 300-600 MB thats still a big chuck of bandwidrh especially if you only have 2 GB bandwidth usage a month.
Who knows though maybe sony will be offering kiosks where you can download the games from.
I dont know why digital games distribution is touted as the future. Sometimes its convinient, but since games cost anything between £30-£60, I would prefer to have a hard copy of the game in a shinyy box really.
PSP has more games that apeal to me then the DS.
