BIOSSHOCK does not run on Windows?

    Hello,

I purchased a combo edition of Oblivion and Bioshock and I have finished Oblivion and thought I would take a look at BIOSHAT which to be honest is what it should be called because it does not work. I have a really good system, custom built by myself and expensive hardware inside the rig.

It runs to the point of running the game but once you start the game it crashes all the time to the point of I uninstalled and could not be bothered anymore. I thought it might have been me then I looked around the net and found loads of people with the same problem as me not being able to run this on Vista or even Windows XP.

    Here is my Rig

    OS Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit
INTEL Duo Core 2 Quad 9650 3.00GHz (Overclocked to 3.4GHz
    CORSAIR DDR3 XMS3 HDX 8GB
    ASUS RAMPAGE EXTREME motherboard (Overclocked)
    SEAGATE Barracuda HDD 1TB
SEAGATE Barracuda HDD 2x 500GB (backup and stoage)
Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 CPU Cooler
SAPPHIRE HD 4890 DDR5 1GB OC Edition (Overclocked 970MHz and CrossFire)
THERMALTAKE SPEDO Advanced Package System chassis

    Loaded System Temperatures

    CPU 35C
    SB 38C
    NB 41C
    System 32C

GFX cards both running at 67C

Any ideas why it will not work, I have spoken to plenty of people who are on a 64-Bit OS and they can run it without ptoblems...?

Just a thought, but have you tried disabling crossfire? Don't know if Bioshock supports it or not but it might be worth a try.

It updated after installing and yes I turned off Crossfire that was the first thing I thought of actually and it made not difference. There are loads of people out there with the same problem.

Re: BIOSSHOCK does not run on Windows?

Most of the problems seem to suggest issues with DX10 more than anything else.

I have Vista 64 and two 4870x2 in crossfire. I found that you have 4 options:
    1) Run at a reduced resolution
    2) Run in windowed mode
    3) Run in DX9 - create a shortcut to the .exe, edit the properties and add -dx9 on the command line in the Target box (leave a space after the .exe line). This is probably the best option and the GFX are still ver very good.
    4) Give up and miss out on what is a very good game.
