Opinions on the latest dashboard update?

Personally, while it's a little overly aimed at the casual user (obviously in preparation for Kinect) and a tad too Wii like, I quite like it. It's clean, clear and the Avatars are proportioned a little better.. not exactly award winning stuff but nice none the less. Has anyone tried out the Zune music marketplace yet?

I quite like the clean uncluttered look. I've browsed the zune marketplace, but haven't purchased anything.

Too big and too bright for the hardcore gamer that never opens the curtains. Would really like to see the option to remove certain channels and sections, don't like the sharp edges and don't like having so much of my premium theme obstructed with the new larger boxes.

Nice and user friendly for the new comers, casual gamers and Kinect users though.

I kinda preferred the previous edition.... Although it was probably down to the servers, I had huge waits trying to download the new versions of Zune and SkyPlayer...

Not got a Live Gold account, so no idea on those enhancements, but the update? Well, it's just an update really. Nothing that I have any strong opinions about either way. In a few months, most people will have forgotten what the old one looked like anyway

Failed when I tried to do the first update though, but tried it again this morning and it updated fine.

Would be nice if they'd roll out the option to skin your dahsboard so you could revert to the old style look if you wanted to. I only signed in for 5 mins on Monday to grab the update, and it looks functional. I wasn't keen on the Wii style tutorial that sprang up once I rebooted.

What happened to the avatars now, look a bit crappy, they tried to make them look more like real people instead of cartoonish

    Wot dashboard update?

Seriously though, while I was aware of it, I've no plans to (or currently, any intention of) updating. The old one does everything I want, and I'm used to it, so it stays.

Re: Opinions on the latest dashboard update?

I imagine the sharp edges are to do with the Kinect sensor having a defined edge between the boxes/channel.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Dont like it tbh, too big and blocky ... i understand why, but surely they could have made it look a little more crisp ..

The new one is very similar. It is more of a Vista to 7 than DOS to Windows, in terms of its user interface. I think you'll only need to update if you want to play games online or use Kinect.

I think that the previous NXE looked better but this is perhaps a little more usable.

Re: Opinions on the latest dashboard update?

Quite so, Steve. And as I don't play online, and Kinect is, in my opinion anyway, seriously overpriced, the existing interface will do me fine.

    Indeed

I forgot to say that I really like the Zune store with its movie trailers. This may be old and something that I have only just noticed however

Re: Opinions on the latest dashboard update?

I quite like the new look. I like the sharp and crisp look, but as others have said, would like the option to change it back to previous setting.

Also, would like to fix the bottom bar, perhaps make it transparent, as the them only affects 2/3rds of the screen.

Forget Kinect, roll on COD: Black Ops
