Hold down left shift when you close the DVD tray - it will disable auto play and you might find it can read more easily (wait for activity to cease, then let go and open disk in explorer and run setup).
tried that and it still wont spin in this drive, for some reason the jc2 disc has a slightly wider hole in the middle than the two other games i have installed.Hold down left shift when you close the DVD tray - it will disable auto play and you might find it can read more easily (wait for activity to cease, then let go and open disk in explorer and run setup).
got an external DVD drive and it now installs but i have created a steam account and its now saying duplicate key product code.
now i have never used steam before and i got this game from ebay, what do i need to do to get this game working.
Just Cause 2 is what is known as a Steamworks title. So if you have bought it pre owned then the key will be registered to the origional owners Steam account. Homefront is another Steamworks title and does the same thing.
Basically what happens is when you install the game from disc it will ask for the key via a Steam screen during installation or when you first go to run it. It then locks that key to the Steam account. So if you then sell the game on it cannot be used be anyone else.
So unfortunately, if it is second hand then you wont be able to use it at all, as the key is non refundable once registered on Steam. You have to be really careful with pre owned PC games now due to this, quite a few titles are Steamworks.
I wouldnt care, over the past week Steam had the summer sale on and you could have bought Just Cause 2 for just under £4 direct from Steam on a few of the days. They also had the DLC for less than £1 per pack.
I'm guessing by that, its a second hand copy you purchased from ebay
Create yourself a Steam account and look out for the sales they have on frequently. You can get allsorts dirt cheap. My game collection boosted from the Christmas sale alone, so much stuff for under a fiver I got something like 8 top named titles for about £25 during its course if my mind serves me right.

yup not going to do that again, sent seller email regarding refund and wtf are you selling games that no one else can play.I'm guessing by that, its a second hand copy you purchased from ebay
steam account is setup now so ill look out for the bargins
Yeah, just keep an eye on the store.
They have the daily deals which is a small box on the right side of the store. They also have midweek deals which usually run from Tuesday 6pm till Thursday 6pm. They also do weekend deals which run from Thursday 6pm till Monday 6pm. Also look out for publisher packs where they have massive collections for really good prices.
You can also register some of your retail discs on Steam so you can just download them to various PC's that you own as well as certain titles on Mac if thats your thing. I registered a few of my retail keys on Steam and just put the discs away for safe keeping.
Heres the list of supported retail keys :

We also have a HEXUS group on Steam with a lot of the regulars here members, so take a look for it under groups in the profile bit of Steam (its under community and then groups), feel free to start adding a few of us as friends also, my username is the same as here
turns out the seller never knew either and has offered a full refund and no need to send it back as its useless.
maybe there should be a warning somewhere on here saying dont buy games of ebay that are used and need a steam account.
not even shure id have one a pp dispute on this one as it says on the steam site once that code is activated thats it and its locked to your account.
what happens if steam goes bust tho, is all the games you bought gone forever?
The following text on the back of the box is the red flag:
"Notice: Product offered subject to your acceptance of the Steam Subscriber Agreement ("SSA"). You must activate this product via the Internet by registering for a Steam account and accepting the SSA. Please see http://www.steampowered.com/agreement to view the SSA prior to purchase. If you do not agree with the provisions of the SSA, you should return this game unopened to your retailer in accordance with their return policy"
The second part of section 2.E is where they forbid resale of products.
Isn't legalese fun? ^_^
