Would certainly put me off buying one...
Me too, though it's not so much "put off" as utterly and permanently preclude any chance whatsoever.
If this proves to be true, I might buy an extra x360, or a few old ones or spares to keep mine going, and I might buy a few extra 360 games, but I will not buy into any console technology that locks me in like that, not now, not ever. In much the same way as I'm not going to let Steam hold me to ransom over games, I'm not going to let MS do it either.
No doubt, most people will buy in, whether they like it or not, but much like Steam has pretty much put an end to my PC gaming, this would end my Xbox gaming.

That's been rumoured about both the next Xbox and PS for some time now, but there's little in the way of facts on the subject. It would be awful if true, and would likely anger the EU, game retailers, etc, but we'll probably have to wait for release to see what the deal is.
This already exists in one form with on-demand games on the marketplace, so it could just mean that? Beware of journalists deliberately misinterpreting information to write sensationalistic headlines...
I would be utterly blown away if either of the next gen consoles allows re-sale of games. They have made their intentions fairly clear lately with the current generation. How much of it is due to their own number crunching.....or whether it's a reaction to all the whinging recently from studios, is probably anyones guess.
All I know is that licensing laws or game prices need to change soon....at the moment there are a lot of people out there who are treating customers unfairly....just because they can get away with it. Not allowing the transfer of a license makes the license worth less yet most games are now £40 (for the "cut down" base game) plus £20-£100 in DLC (to flesh-out the content to a level that most games used to have OTOB). Talk about having your cake and eating it!

I'd not be surprised either, much more profit to make when people can't buy pre-owned games to use. It would be a nuisance admittedly, wouldn't be able to bring games to my friends houses and vice versa, but I've never really been one for buying used games anyway (I like new things ).
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
I'd imagine that this thread will largely mirror the PS3 thread on the same issue, but I'll say the same thing again.
I'm not that inclined to buy either a PS4 or an XBOX720 - I've almost totally stopped using the damn things by focussing solely on PC games. But I might do. If a "solution" like this is introduced, then I can convert that into a "no chance whatsoever".
I don't buy many games for my PS3, as I refuse to pay more than about £10 unless it's something mind-blowing. And in those cases I'm usually disappointed. So if I've got to buy everything new, and the second I buy it it's worthless, then I expect it to be less than £10... more like £4-5, which is my purchase point on Steam.
And that won't happen, so neither will my purchases.
I doubt Sony or Microsoft care too much about people like me who won't pay £40 p/m for the latest and greatest title, and they'll probably do this anyway, but hopefully I'm not alone.
well germany is taking steam to court over not allowing sales of secondhand games .. so i can see the eu doing the same .. might as well pick there pockets like they pick yours ..
btw never owned a ps or xbox why when a pc does everything and more ..cheaper
At this point of course it's all rumours. There are numerous articles floating around saying the next gen consoles will have this, that, won't allow such and such. All we can do is speculate until such a time that details are revealed.
Personally I buy my games new, so this wouldn't effect me, however I don't agree with the notion at all. Gaming is supposed to be a fun and enjoyable hobby. Over time, it has become a more and more expensive hobby, now getting to the point where the cost of gaming is extortionate. The corporations only care about the money now, or so it seems. We pay so much for new games in this day, and yet if we want to get the full experience of said games, we have to purchase DLC on top of the game itself. It's high time they thought about the consumers, rather than themselves. That being said though, people (including myself) will still go out and pay these prices and be held to ransom, no matter to an extent, the cost.
It'll be interesting to see how this pans out, I've been hearing this rumour for some time now, and it honestly would surprise me if it was true.
I buy nearly all my games new too, and over the years, have bought enough that stacked one on top of another, they'd go floor to ceiling .... more than once. I don't sell many, either.
But I do want to be able to do so if I choose, and to buy srcond-hand games whenthe right chance appears. For instance, once I bought a few used games (as part of the purchase of a non-game item) from a member here. I got cheap games, and he got a bit of cash for stuff he wasn't going to use again.
But my main objection wasn't actually about that. It was about "always-on connection" and verifying every game on start-up. That, I'm not doing. Period. Which is why I drew the Steam analogy.
I personally am not looking forward to the idea of no second hand games market if its true.
I normally buy new games a month after release when they have gone from there RRP of around £40 to a more reasonable £25-£20 get through them (or get bored with them) and sell them down CEX or Game and get nearly all the money back and put it towards another couple of second hand games.
The rumor i read was you can buy a physical copy of the game (with an activation card inside) so i can still look for bargains online but i cannot sell them later so i wont have nearly as many games with the next generation consoles as i have now.
So, you wont be able to sell PS4 or XBOX720 games.
And, already you can't sell PC games.
So, whats going to happen ? Hello, even more piracy! Studios are preaparing the stage for shooting themselves on the foot.
I wonder if we'll see an excuse something along the lines of 'this is to improve things for consumers - we need more moniez to make betteh gamez!'
If one console does this, but the other doesn't, and people are aware of it, the one implementing it could be properly nuking their own foot.
I really do not think that piracy on the next generation of consoles will increase dramatically if this conjecture becomes reality.
Playing illegal copies on a PS3 or an Xbox 360 requires a complicated procedure to install custom software, which deters many of the would be pirates. It is a fair deduction to say that the new consoles will be even more resistant to 'jailbreaking', hence piracy rates may even go down.
Hopefully we will vote with our wallets, and make sure that Sony and/or Microsoft will see the folly of trying to screw the consumer.
ps4 are doing the same thing
