So who's getting one? Ive got a preorder with Zelda
The Mrs has one on preorder too ( she is a major Zelda fan )

I must say that it is underpowered and underspecced. 32gb in 2017, really?
Nope. It looks pretty fancy , but I just don't play console games, it's a complete waste of money for me. My Wii mostly collected dust.
I've got a Steam Link now which is a far cheaper way for the occasional time I want to play a game in the lounge.
But then Nintendo AAA titles such as Zelda
I'm quite excited about the successor to the Switch, but, hey, I was looking forward to the Wii U replacement.
RIP Nintendo
I really want one but the missus would likely kill me if I bought it
Ive got one, spent the entire weekend playing Zelda
If you cut past all the usual drivel about being underpowered etc etc and get to the point of the thing -its a great device. As with all of Nintendo's consoles, the switch does things a bit differently, and doesn't need the raw power of an xbox one/PS4/PC - and it doesn't even try to compete. Graphics have never equaled good games and that argument has been ongoing for over 20 years now - nothing has changed...
It's power is in the versatility - it's core concept of swapping between handheld and TV gameplay really works, and although it remains to be seen if it will prove to be more than just a short term gimmick..I used it a lot this weekend. Started playing Zelda on the TV, a few hours later decided I wanted to go and make some dinner..so I just picked it up and carried it into the kitchen, and carried on playing in between cooking. Took a break whilst eating and then carried on again on the big screen. Next day, I went round to flat sit (looking after a cat for the afternoon), and just took it with me..and could keep on playing Zelda.
last night I wanted to watch some TV, and I am one of those annoying people who likes to use a tablet whilst watching TV, usually playing hearthstone or something similar..but now I can play with the switch instead, and can keep on with Zelda whilst watching TV.
They are relatively poor examples as this won't be every day (once the "shiny" wears off) and won't apply to everyone, but the key point is that you really can just keep playing wherever you are..no need to stop playing your main console just because you need to leave the lounge. I am sure that for some people that won't add any appeal, but to me personally it does..and its a nice concept.
Zelda itself looks fantastic (every bit as good as your average PS4/XBO game) - although its helped by the cell shading approach - but it still looks great and has the biggest draw distance of any console game I have ever seen. The game itself is also massive..objectively bigger than TW3, GTA5, Skyrim or any other large open world game from recent years, and crucially no loading anywhere in the outside work (something all 3 of those games mentioned have to contend with). You still load when going into instanced content, but in the main game...no loading. Nice consistent frame rate too. I am some 20 hours in and still have yet to do a proper dungeon..there is easily over 100 hours of play here just for the main story.
Of course any system will live or die by it's games - and currently there is really only Zelda for the switch (OK I have Bomberman & snipperclips too, but they are not exactly AAA system sellers). We're getting Mario Kart next month which is great as I skipped the WiiU, but Splatoon 2 is August, Mario is December..so at the moment there is a big drought in quality games to keep us on the Switch after we finish Zelda. Hopefully virtual console will help with that (Given that you will be able to play online with the older games - Mario Kart 1 multiplayer over the internet anyone??) but the lack of games is the system's biggest risk.
Regardless though, great console and very happy with my purchase. I'll keep the switch for pure fun games (which is usually Nintendo's strongpoint anyway!) and the PC for the "serious" stuff.
Bought mine on day one and have Zelda and MarioKart8. It's fun, sure but as with previous Nintendo consoles, it's definitely behind the times when it comes to power and features. The lack of AA on MK8D is extremely jarring, even on the handheld screen. The WiFi seems to be very poor, not quite sure why and some of the build quality decisions are risky when it's marketed at people of all age ranges. The controllers are OK though, Zelda is beautiful and I'm liking the minimalist UI.
Personally disappointed and I'm going to sell it (if anyone's interested lol) but I feel that over time it's going to be essential for any Nintendo fan.
Well I finally got one 2 weeks ago
I was going to wait for the grey ones to come back into stock but then though I'm unlikely to play outdoors much so the neon one wouldnt be too offensive
The Neon red especially has grown on my and I am glad I got this over the grey. Considering I said I wouldn't be playing it out the house I have been using on my commute to work nearly every day
Zelda is amazing. I know there is always going to be a lot of hype around a new console and a new zelda but in this case I think it's really justified The world seems huge and there is so much to do! I have probably put a good 20 hours in so far and I have only done one of the 4 divine beasts. I saw comparisons with Dark souls in the combat and I do agree to a point. I got majorly schooled with the first boss I took on and had to learn not to go in gung ho. The Shrines are a great idea and seem really well planned to make you have to think about what you are doing. My only gripe so far is that weapons break far too quickly (seem to get a few enemies down before needing a new weapon) I like the idea of degradation but imho could do with being a little less breakable
The reason for me buying the switch was E3. The First party games are all looking brilliant (mario, yoshi etc) But rabbids kingdom looks a lot of fun too. I dont mind if the third part companies don't realise the COD`s and the A.C`s I have a pc for that kind of thing. I want the switch for games that are fun which Nintendo have always done pretty well imo. One game I'm hoping they bring out is a mario maker because that looks amazing on the wii u!
Yep just got a Switch for the same reasons, Fun gaming for friends & family. Zelda is a great game, i was expecting a little manual inside the Game case for younger players to get know the basics. Not many decent games at the moment but i'm sure they will have alot more by next year and then there is the prospect of WiiU Virtual console games coming to the Switch. I dont like the price of the Switch its way too much for the console. It really should be at least £40 to £50 cheaper with at least 1 free game like 1-2 Switch with it.
I was wondering what people think of super mario odyssey? It seems to be another zelda-top-tier release for the switch.
I want to buy a nintendo console because of I remember loving mario and zelda when I was younger. What puts me off is the cost of the console and not being able to game at 1080p which should be minimum by now. Also the lack of a hdd.
