Dell 3007 wfp swap for 1080p 37" LCD HDTV?

    I currently own a 30" Dell 3007WFP ( with a 2560 x 1600 resolution ) which i use as my main computer monitor, alongside this i use a cheap 720p HDTV ( 1366 x 768 resolution ) and i use this as a secondary monitor. Connected to my HDTV I have a Playstation 2, Gamecube, Dreamcast and an Xbox 360.

Recently my dad has been looking for a cheap dell 3007wfp. However i could simply get him to purchase me a £700 37" 1080P Toshiba Television and give him my dell monitor.

However im unsure about a few things...:

    1) will this television offer better upscaling/ deinterlacing than my budget 720p digitmate television?

    2) If im using it as a main computer monitor, how are the specs of it for things such as gaming ?

    3) Will it support 60hz at 1920 x 1080? ( one website says 50hz but im not sure if its correct )

    4) Also my current dell is quite flexible with movement on its stand i can move it up and down twist and turn and tilt. How would this be with the toshiba since my cheap 720p screen is pretty much fixed in position.

    5) What would peoples recommendations be for my conversion? Any opinions are welcome!

I think that's pretty much a given Most 1080p sets use fairly decent upscaling chips as they need to be able to upscale 480/576i formats all the way to 1080p without looking too horrific. Upscalers in premium TV's have come a long way in the last year or two.

It's impossible to tell from specs I'm afraid. As well as LCD's problems with motion blur (which are pretty much an individual thing) you'd also have to watch out for input lag, which varies greatly from set to set. Most modern TV companies accept that people will be gaming on them, and design them as such though. I'd be more worried about general PC use though, as it'll have quite a coarse dot pitch compared to a PC. You really couldn't sit the same distance from it as you would a PC monitor.

You'd be best to try and look up the user manual on the Toshiba UK site, or email them
There's a manual link on this page http://www.home-entertainment.toshib...d?opendocument

It'll maybe swivel but I don't imagine it'll tilt or lift.

I'm afraid I'm of the opinion you'd need a TV and a monitor, I don't think one set can do both jobs.

    Good luck !

In my experience LCD TV's are rubbish to use as a main monitor on your PC. They are not designed to be sat 1/2 a foot away from, they are designed to be sat several foot away from.

I can pretty much garuntee the image quality will be terrible compared to your really nice dell Dell 3007 wfp.
