My brother has just bought a Sony Bravia LCD TV and is trying to plug is Xbox up to it with the official VGA lead. We are having trouble getting a picture though, just getting a message saying "out of range"
Works fine use the component lead, but it's supposed to be a better picture using the VGA lead.
Anyone have any ideas or have the VGA lead working fine on their Sony?

what model tv, and what mode is the 360 trying to use? not all tvs will take all modes both over vga and hdmi - some 1080p sets have a 1024x768 limit on vga, for example
Why doesn't he use the Component cable? Same resolution...

Some have said the sharpness of the image increases over vga, at the cost of the colours looking more washed. Since they come from the same source, I can only guess its the interpretation of the image at the other end that differs.
There was common opinion on AV and Xbox forums that (as Dave87 states) VGA was sharper, but had poorer colours. Microsoft seemingly adressed it a couple of updates ago, so now VGA is perceived to offer the best PQ.
As directhex says, not all TV's accept all resolutions over VGA, and Sony are particularly bad for this, leading to many fanboy theories and posts along the lines of "Sony deliberately scroowed up the VGA on there tellies so that the 360 pitchur sux !!1!!"
But on the majority of TV's, it's really not that much of a difference in PQ anyway. Though I guess people may have a spare VGA and no spare component or HDMI sockets on their sets.

He wanted to use the VGA lead because as bigblue said, the picture is supposed to be sharper. I've not noticed this myself on my samsung, but some people say it is.
In the end he sold his xbox and bought an elite so now he's using the HDMI port and I have to say it's quite an improvement over the component cable.
