Disappointed with freeview signal for Humax

Moved a week ago to a new area, popped down to Richer Sounds over the weekend (gotta love those guys) and bought a shiniy new Humax 9200TB, which seems to tick all the right boxes for me and the wife (to replace our Sky+, without the subscription basically).
Plugged the ariel point in to the hole in the wall, only to find that our flat (rented) has an exterior analogue only ariel. Oh dear. And it's a ground floor flat.
So back to RS, bought an indoor 'One For All' ariel, back home .... patchy signal at various levels of signal boost.
Back to RS, swapped for the highest power 'One For All' indoor ariel, and even worse reception!
Basically getting the occasional video frame with some level of messy audio.
So am having to return the whole lot to Richer Sounds today for hopefully a full refund.

So upset, so until we buy our own house and have a decent ariel, no PVR for me

    Shame.

I've found the receiver in the humax to be excellent. I'm in a weak signal area and often the receiver in my Sony Bravia TV will lose freeview reception whereas the humax will retain a signal (both fed from the same ariel).

If you are renting can you not ask the Landlord to change it for a digital capable aerial?

Either that, or ask his permission to have Sky install a dish on the house....(use your old box for Free to Air channels)

Good ideas, but our landlord only owns our flat, not the whole building, and since we are only going to be here for 6 months i can wait. I hope.

Re: Disappointed with freeview signal for Humax

I'm in a very similar situation as you only I can't receive any TV at all

I managed to blag my parents 32" Sharp LCD as they have moved out of the country for a couple years. Was hoping to be able to pick up the freeview but it seems as if the ariel is completely knackered. I can't be bothered with getting the landlord to try and put up a new one as I'm sure I'd end up paying for it and I only hope to be in there another 6 months.

We now just use the local library to rent DVD's. It's so frustrating not being able to sort the house out to the standard I'd like on silly things like an ariel.

Just have to keep trying to put the pennies away to get a deposit and hope that house prices fall a little with this current financial situtaion
