    2.1 Monitor Speakers

    Hi,

Im looking to buy some new good quality speakers that will be connected to my pc through my edirol external sound card and will be playing vinyl, cds, mp3 etc

im looking for a 2.1 system and from looking around a monitor speaker aimed set seems right for what i want, especially as i may be messing around with mixing/ production/ recording when i get a bit more time!

I was looking at these - i want active ones, although i'm not sure why there better tbh, apart from them not needing an amp, ive jsut been told that's what i have to get haha

    Samson Audio - Resolv 2.1

For £260 which is around what i want to spend.

However i don't really know much about speakers so im just here fishing for any advice/ recommendations?

    Thanks!

Weird - the site's removed all my links.

Head over to Digital Village's website they have a great selection to browse through.

My money would go either here:

    Blue Sky

    or here:

KRK RP6 Rokit Active Studio Monitors (2) (RP6)

    Re: 2.1 Monitor Speakers

EDIT: Ok ive actually realised that monitor speakers are probably not what im after as I want something which sounds really good for music/ movies and would rather sacrifice my lame attempts at mixing!

However i really dont know what sort of speakers i should be looking for, apart from them being 2.1 - should i be looking down the PC route or elsewhere??

And i still want active ones as it gives so much flexibility and i dont have an amp!

    Thanks

    Re: 2.1 Monitor Speakers

To be honest, I use nearfield monitors for my main fronts in my home cinema. I'd use them for my rears as well if I could get away with it since I have a spare pair - the missus won't let me have full size speakers on the window shelf though, lol!

There's not a great deal of difference between decent flat response hi-fi speakers and studio nearfield monitors. After all, the idea of nearfields is that they give you an idea how the track will sound on a normal hi-fi system, so sometimes Hi-fi speakers are perfect for the job!
