Monty Pythons was being shown on TV in 1969. I know, I was there. I can remember driving my first car to Swanage for a weekend when the Rolling Stones' 'Honky Tonk Women' was in the charts, and talking about Monty Pythons Flying Circus at that time. I was 17 and five weeks old at the time.

So, it looks as though they may have been around at the same time. If one was earlier, it was down to a matter of months, weeks, or even days. Told y'all I wuz old

    I'm from Catford.

Anyway, my favourite comedy series ever has got to be The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer; that's probably the closest I've come to wetting myself through laughing so much. Actually I never miss Shooting Stars either if I can help it. Only trouble is, quite often they're not nearly as funny second time round 'cos you know what's going to happen, but I guess that's probably true of a lot of comedy. I think if I saw the bit where Bob tries to impress Larry Hagman with his unusual sausage hat again I probably wouldn't stop laughing for a long time- I'm laughing pretty hard just thinking about it now .

Edit: ****, how did I forget Trigger Happy? Sorry, that is the funniest thing I've ever seen, and probably always will be unfortunately. I taped the first episode and took it in for my workmates to watch on the shop telly the next day. Not a great deal of work got done that morning . I'd say the funniest one was the first in the second series, it never let up, and my stomach muscles were in agony afterwards. Ah, happy days.

My favourite sitcoms are probably Father Ted, The Simpsons and Family Guy.

Family Guy has to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen (better than the The Simpsons, here comes an argument!). Fawlty Towers is great as well (I like the bit with the old bag, and Basil shouts in her ear with the hearing aid turned up), followed by Red Dwarf.

i cant believe OfandH's isnt top. It is the god of comedy, along with never mind the buzzcocks.

the best scene ever is the one where trigger says he has had his broom for 20 years. It has only needed 23 new heads and 20 new handles.

The All New Alexi Sayle Show would be probably number 3 on my all time fave TV comedy shows. Especially his Bobby Chariot warm-up guy. Classic and totally under-rated stuff.

Spaced at number two: "I can't believe I've just been mugged by the Red Hand Gang!"

And Bottom at the top. I can't get over just how re-watchable this show is. Juvenile, yes, vulgar, base, yes, funny as hell, most definately.

Hmm You've missed 2 great comedy shows from that list

    1) Little Britain - absolutely hilarious, you can actually see people acting like these

2)Monkey dust - surreal yet funny as hell cartoon

Red Dwarf is funny as hell but even now the DVD's I have only get watched when I'm severely drunk as the above 2 are better

    father ted kills me....
Not a fan of OF&H, never really did it for me....
Blackadder rox - last decent stuff Rowan did.
Faulty towers..... How did they get away with the Flowery tw*ts at the start of one of them I'll never know... And the germans episode.... Pure class!
Red dwarf was fab initially, but started getting a bit "samey" by episode 5 i thought.

    amen to that list..

oh and add Monkey Dust as that is the most surreal comedy for ages.

Corrie should also be added for the 2 funniest comments I've seen in a soap for ages, and these were the "stick a cream cake in it...." line closely followed by " I've got his brains all over my cardi !! "

Comedy gold from Granada... I spilt my brew when I heard that

Pheonix Nights is also great ( I have to support local causes ) but I found max and paddy funnier.

Oh and has anyone watched Ideal on BBC3 yet ? That took 2 episodes to get going ( a bit like star wars ) but now its fantastically funny and Johnny Vegas is great in this.
