    Quick bit of HDR photography

Seeing as my Panasonic FX150 has auto-bracket exposure I thought I'd have a go at a bit of HDR photography.

So I popped the tripod in front of a (dirty) window and took a picture.

After a load of fiddling around with the elegantly named "Qtpfsgui" HDR image editor, I've got a half-decent one.

    Here's the centre image:

    And here's the HDR version:

    http://stevekerrison.com/images/hdr/hdr_snow.jpg

Alas the bracketing will only do +1 & -1 so the range isn't all that "high", and manually tweaking it usually ends up in the camera being moved.

    Still, at least it worked.

Hahah - man you must live about 2 doors down from where I used to live a few years back. I still only live about 10 mins walk away from there.

Will give it a go. It's only a compact camera but I'll see how it copes.

Small world indeed. Don't envy you having to live next door to us though!

There used to be a total psycho who owned the garden flat beneath us (he had a yappy dog as well). Used to enjoy inviting loads of people around mid-week and play load music out of his patio doors at 3AM. Then would complain in a totally psychotic manner if we made *ANY* noise at all. I got a decibel meter off the council in the end and recorded the noise he made. The council ended up sending him a letter threatening to confiscate all his audio equipment Pleased me no end. For your sake, I hope he's not still there!

    Nice photos by the way

I actually once sent an email to the author begging for a change of name.

My main issue with qtpfsgui is that the images change substantially with some algorithms depending on the output image size, so previewing is all but impossible with those modes. There are a LOT of different algorithms to choose from, though.

Yeah, two of algorithms in that program are by a lecturer in my department at uni - Erik Reinhard. He does some clever stuff.

But yeah there's something amiss with the fact that they're not consistent across output resolutions.
