Picked up some 'new' kit today

Going to meet my wife at a craft fair she was doing I saw a carboot just outside, had a quick nosey & a couple of old SLRs caught my eye. Probably worth nothing but I thought I should at least give them a home!

    I got:

    Praktika TL3
Carl Zeiss Jena DDR Flektogon 2.4/35 lens
    National PE-280C flash

    Pentak ME
    Pentak SMC 1:1.7 50mm lens
    Hoya 52mm Skylight (1B) lens

    DSCF1685 by Rob_norb17, on Flickr

Everything looks in ok nick, theres even film in one of them, dying to get it developed to see whats on it!

    So how did I do?

    Ha not quite!

Just looked on ebay, is the CZ lens alone really £120 worth of kit?

It sure seems that way, so how much did you bag the lot for?

I don't really want to say, as I might be tempted to sell on here now (at a hefty discount of course!) I think that lens alone cost me, umm, £120, yeah thats it!

Re: Picked up some 'new' kit today

Hmmm...any interest in these if I popped them on the classifieds?

Took a few photos with the Pentax I think it was today (with the film that was in it) Strange, it felt so much more 'right' taking photos with it than with digital. Spent a while wondering why I couldn't zoom until I realised the lens was just bringing the background in/out of focus, hangover isn't making my mind run very fast today!

Re: Picked up some 'new' kit today

Well, Practika always were a cheap and cheerful brand, really for people that couldn't afford Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, etc. On the other hand, usually, there's nothing at all shabby about Carl Zeiss lenses, so what you can get out of that on a decent DSLR, using a suitable adapter ring (and manual exposure) might be very interesting.

As for how you did, well, personally, I find old cameras, including SLRs and some can be worth a surprising amount. But most aren't. An awful lot were produced in large numbers, and are really only of interest to most due to their rarity, so unless you've got a rarity, the monetary value may well be minimal. And neither strike me as rare.

You did well, in my view, in finding a couple of interesting items, but don't expect Sotheby's to be beating a path to your door.

All IMHO, of course, and my interest in old cameras should not be interpreted as knowing what I'm talking about. I buy what I like, not because I think it's worth anything.

PS. Value is also affected by condition. Do the shutters operate? Are they intact? Do any built-in meters work .... and work right? Etc.

Re: Picked up some 'new' kit today

Cheers Saracen, they just caught my eye, an impulse purchase, but if I can sell that one lens for anywhere near the amount it seems to go for I had a good day!

Not sure if everything works, they seem to do so althoughI've not given them a once over & probably wouldn't know what to look for anyway!

The CZ seem in good nick, no dust or anything, no cap or back cover bit though so I imaghine that's a downside?

I'll have to have a look later & see what I can get working with no film, on of the body has a feathered pattern to the internal prism (?) is that normal?

old cameras left to die tend to suffer from fungus so i would open the apature and have a good look though the lens.

The CZ Flektogon is a bloody good lens - very close focusing and great colour. I've got one - paid £100 for it including an M42/KMount adaptor.
