    Grr XBox Live

So I've been on holiday, haven't been checking my mail / bank accounts as regularly as I normally do, and just noticed two £42.50 charge on my Visa card, and a notice that my XBox Live account has been migrated to Russia. Given that I do not even have an XBox the last time was when I made a purchase for a PC game last year.

I have notified my bank and am taking a flight back to the UK in 12 hours, but I am wondering if it has happened to anyone, and what else I can do about it. I am not even too sure how to log in to that account (presumably the password has been changed, though I don't even know if the "username" is meant to be my email address it is registered to, or the username I picked for my account).

Doesn't seem to be an isolated incident: http://geek.pikimal.com/2011/09/28/h...a-data-breach/ , http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/109723 . Not that there is ever a good time for this kind of crap to happen, this is amongst the worse time for it.

PS: I absolutely despise sites that saves payment information (even if not all the digits are shown). I am pretty sure that I wouldn't have it saved it was an option.

PPS: Seems that my health insurance also debited from my account even though I called them twice before my departure to cancel. Why is it so hard to cancel stuff in the UK? :/

    *Not very happy*

Edit: Didn't notice the change of layout. Meant to post in general chat.

    Monday-Friday: 08:00-21:00

    Sunday: 09:00-17:00

    Phone numbers:
    020 7365 9792 or 0800 587 1102

Had my account hacked a few weeks ago, with points being purchased and spent using my funds. A quick phone call to Customer Support explaining what had happened and they took care of it. The account got locked down whilst they resolved it but it didn't take long, just a week or so (they told me it could take up to 40 days). Got my money refunded and was gifted a couple of months Live and a few points.

Note: You might need to have access to your console* - they could ask for its ID, etc.

My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

    Re: Grr XBox Live

Sorry to hear mate, hope it gets resolved fast. I also hope this doesn't mean a major breach of Xbox Live but on the face of it may be a keylogger or force crack of the password system.

    Re: Grr XBox Live

I won't rule anything out but my passwords shouldn't be easy to brute force. The last time I logged on XBox live was last November to buy Age of the Empire 3 for 10 pence and I've not loggedon since (I've never even owned an XBox). I'll give them a call (thanks for the UK number - couldn't find it).

    Re: Grr XBox Live

It uses Windows Live id now mate, all linked in together, so if you have a hotmail account etc it could be that.

    Re: Grr XBox Live

Called them, so it's now a case of waiting for the investigation.
@pauldarkside: Did you cancel your card when that happened? I am not sure whether to wait and see if the bank is willing to refund me, or wait for XBox Live support to do so.

Yep, cancelled the card right away. Although the hacker shouldn't have been able to access all of the card details (it's all asterisked out), I wasn't prepared to take a chance.

    Re: Grr XBox Live

I know this is my frustration, please just bear with my need to vent my frustration by saying that my experience is completely different from Paul's: Since I've reported the issue, I have been sent *one* email, and every time I call them, the person on the other end express their "surprise" that the case has yet to be resolved before assuring that they are going to chase it up and get back to me. Now I've been very patient, leaving a fair amount of time between each calls to give them all the time they need to go through their procedures, but they really are testing my patience.
