Re: Lounge redecoration / system rebuild

I'm looking at projectors at the moment. Want 1080p, something that gives good black levels but will be ok in a none perfect environment (blacked out windows but white ceilings, magnolia side walls). Not interested in 3D at all, but it must be as near silent as possible. Any one got any suggestions?

Nice thread, thanks for the photos.

I've no personal experience of projectors unfortunately (yet, although I have a long term project in hand), but have recently been reading this website regularly:

    http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/

They have done quite a bit on projectors recently:
    http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/displays

As well as a general buying guide:

You might find it a little basic, but it's worth a look.

A guy I know who is a home cinema nut told me the key with projectors and screens is how dark you get the room, and the test is however dark the white of the screen is with the lights off is how black the black will be with the projector on.

For projectors check out this site... Projector Central It's US but has really good info on the projectors like dB, Lumens, and a compare option...

Also has a throw calculator which allows you to pick a projector and see the screen size capacity, seating distance etc... Projection Calculator (Epson 8350)

find someone who can demo the epson high end units, near silent and projector don't tend to go hand in hand but the TW4400 would be close to what you need judging by the wall you have to shine it on, will also work well in full daylight & has the bonus of lens shift to keystone it instead of losing pixels to get a square image. imho the best range of projector does not have digital keystone as it will always have 1920x1080 res when its setup.

Wall is 3.4m wide. Going to aim to get a screen that sits nicely between the speakers in front of the TV. Will see if there's anywhere around here but doubt it.

Just measured up - 5m throw (back wall, shelf mount), 2.4m gap between speakers. That roughly equates to a 107" diagonal picture if I'm right?

Re: Lounge redecoration / system rebuild

my god man, there designed for 24 foot wide screens in Riley's snooker halls!

epic projector, i love the optical keystone as you never lose a pixel, also have only ever been called out to one since they were released so they must be well built

i guess you can run that in eco to keep the noise down and still need sunglasses in the average room

Re: Lounge redecoration / system rebuild

Well, I didn't want to be short on brightness in the day time hah In all seriousness though I'm planning on using a 0.8 gain screen for better blacks since the rest of the room isn't really ideal. I didn't want to be disappointed, so kinda went a bit mad really...

Lens shift will be a god send since it looks like I'll be flush mounting to the ceiling. The mount's arrived - just the remote screen and baluns to wait for now.

Re: Lounge redecoration / system rebuild

you cant flush mount to the ceiling as the lens shift is designed to work with a tiltable mount to give you the desired keystone m8. they are a bit of a pig to setup as you have to tilt the projector then adjust the wheel until the picture is correct, you may get away with it but be ready to add some tilt to square it up.

you will see what i mean when you start to tinker!

Re: Lounge redecoration / system rebuild

Hmm, the dealer suggested otherwise, and the mount is a specific flush fit for the PJ. Still, as you say, we'll see how it goes when the other stuff arrives, no point second guessing until the screens up and I can move things around.

I did however take it upstairs and plug it into a BD player directly and fire it onto the bedroom wall to make sure it wasn't DOA. Despite it being a magnolia wall, I was very, very impressed. Looks like a good bit of kit and the 3 year bulb warranty gives me that extra peace of mind. Happy bunny.

Re: Lounge redecoration / system rebuild

i bet the dealers only looked at a couple of lens shift models in his life never mind set one up

if it's flush you may have to compromise the screen height to pull it off, i suggest holding it to the ceiling and taking a look so you can consider your mounting options ? even blu tak on the ceiling with string hanging down to give you an idea of keystone while you play around.

tbh long screws and washers may be an option but then you lose the flush fit.

please keep the filters clean, biggest issue i come across in my job!

i think your going to be like me and will not put up with a dodgy keystone

what mount did you get ?
